Lost Nuke The Last Flight of Bomber 075【電子書籍】[ Dirk Septer ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Lost Nuke The Last Flight of Bomber 075【電子書籍】[ Dirk Septer ]

Just before midnight on February 13, 1950, three engines of a US Air Force B-36 intercontinental bomber caught fire over Canada's northwest coast. The crew jumped, and the plane ditched somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. The fact that the huge aircraft had been carrying a Mark IV nuclear bomb was kept carefully hidden. Three years later, the wreck of the bomber was found by accident in a remote location in the coastal mountains of British Columbia, three hours' flying time in the opposite direction of where it was supposed to have crashed. How did it get there? Did somebody remain on board and fly it there?

Only after years of silence did the United States finally admit to losing a nuclear bomb; the incident was the first ever "Broken Arrow," as accidents involving nuclear weapons have come to be known. But was the bomb dropped and exploded over the Inside Passage or was it blown up at the aircraft's resting place in the mountains?

This Cold War-era tale borders on fantasy as Dirk Septer follows the last flight of Bomber 075 and attempts to unravel the real story behind more than 50 years of secrecy, misdirection and misinformation.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Resolute John Franklin's Lost Expedition and the Discovery of the Queen's Ghost Ship【電子書籍】[ Martin W. Sandler ]

Few know that the president’s desk in the Oval Office plays a part in one of the world’s most extraordinary sagas; in Resolute, noted historian Martin Sandler brings the story to light.

After Sir John Franklin and his ships disappeared in the Arctic while seeking the Northwest Passage, 39 rescue missions were launched, including one by the Resolute, the Royal Navy’s finest vessel. In 1854, it became locked in the ice and was abandoned. A year later, a Connecticut whaling ship discovered it drifting 1,200 miles away, a 600-ton ghost ship. The whalers boarded the Resolute and steered it through a ferocious hurricane back to Connecticut. The US government re-outfitted the ship and returned it to Queen Victoria, who, in 1879, had its best timbers made into a desk for President Rutherford B. Hayesーa desk still in use today. Rare photographs, paintings, engravings, and maps illustrate the book throughout. This edition is updated with a new chapter on the discovery of Franklin’s ships, the HMS Erebus and the HMS Terror, in 2014 and 2016 in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

This legendary maritime epic is perfect for fans of David Grann’s The Wager and Hampton Sides’s The Wide Wide Sea.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

Lone Survivor The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10【電子書籍】[ Marcus Luttrell ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Lone Survivor The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10【電子書籍】[ Marcus Luttrell ]

Follow along a Navy SEAL's firsthand account of American heroism during a secret military operation in Afghanistan in this true story of survival and difficult choices.

On a clear night in late June 2005, four U.S. Navy SEALs left their base in northern Afghanistan for the mountainous Pakistani border. Their mission was to capture or kill a notorious al Qaeda leader known to be ensconced in a Taliban stronghold surrounded by a small but heavily armed force. Less then twenty-four hours later, only one of those Navy SEALs remained alive.

This is the story of fire team leader Marcus Luttrell, the sole survivor of Operation Redwing, and the desperate battle in the mountains that led, ultimately, to the largest loss of life in Navy SEAL history. But it is also, more than anything, the story of his teammates, who fought ferociously beside him until he was the last one left-blasted unconscious by a rocket grenade, blown over a cliff, but still armed and still breathing. Over the next four days, badly injured and presumed dead, Luttrell fought off six al Qaeda assassins who were sent to finish him, then crawled for seven miles through the mountains before he was taken in by a Pashtun tribe, who risked everything to protect him from the encircling Taliban killers.

A six-foot-five-inch Texan, Leading Petty Officer Luttrell takes us, blow by blow, through the brutal training of America's warrior elite and the relentless rites of passage required by the Navy SEALs. He transports us to a monstrous battle fought in the desolate peaks of Afghanistan, where the beleaguered American team plummeted headlong a thousand feet down a mountain as they fought back through flying shale and rocks.

In this rich, moving chronicle of courage, honor, and patriotism, Marcus Luttrell delivers one of the most powerful narratives ever written about modern warfare -- and a tribute to his teammates, who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

The Lost Winter Of Lyla Strauss【電子書籍】[ A.H. Scott ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Lost Winter Of Lyla Strauss【電子書籍】[ A.H. Scott ]

In this coming of age story, set in the Yukon of the year 1850: fur trapper and orphan he raised come face to face with the transformative dimensions of their relationship, from tragedies through time’s passage. Escaping the world of his past, Dancy Ruelaix ventured into the solitude of wilderness. Wanting to evade opening his heart to another human being, he always thought he never needed anyone. But, there was one person who could not live without him. Her name was Lyla Strauss. A season of change comes in “The Lost Winter of Lyla Strauss”.

Both trappers did the best they could in saving Coulton’s right foot, as the probability of him losing it was a likely conclusion beyond blooded strips of white cloth and an improvised splint along the length of his leg.

Delirium wafted over the stranger, as bouts of excruciating pain and slim swaths of lucidity encapsulated this human being for almost a month. Person nursing him back to some semblance of viability relied mostly on tinctures and potions from Ravenswood, a shamanic healer from the Inuit tribe.

Hollister’s condition was touch and go as he drifted into a coma during the middle of October and was given a spiritual ceremony of finality by Ravenswood.

As one of the trappers stayed inside the cabin around the clock keeping watch over Coulton for the next seven days the other stayed the course of collecting, cleaning and curing pelts for the future winter months to come.

To normalize Coulton Hollister’s temperature since his rescue in September, a bed had been placed in the front room of the cabin where the fireplace was located.

On the morning of the seventh day of that vigil, sun beamed through an almost sheer piece of fabric on the side window of the cabin and a man awakened once more.

Coulton’s eyes slowly opened, as a blazing flash of sunlight filled the cabin and he got a first glimpse of life back among the living.

Beneath a cocooning layer of varied blankets, cloths and fur swaths, this wounded man’s arms slowly pushed them to one side of the bed as his eyes grasped for some sight which was familiar to him.

Focusing first upon his beard which had become overgrown, Coulton’s eyes slowly began to blink and take in a pleasant view.
Across the room from where he was, a nude female of slight form sat on the edge of another bed, brushing long, brown hair with her back situated to him.

In an awakened presence of the angel who he had thought was sent to watch over him Coulton Hollister thought this young waif of only 13 or 14 years of age had been the daughter of the trappers who’d recovered him from the base of that ravine.

Focusing his eyes upon this nude female, he realized she was more mature than being of teen years. She was not a girl, but a woman of tender presence. Probably not the daughter of the trapper, but a young bride of a mountain man was the thought which filled Hollister’s mind about this beauty.

Coulton’s labored grunt filled the air, as each footstep brought him closer to where she sat upon the bed. Using a branch located near his bed as a crutch to stabilize his balance, he moved slowly.

Hearing him stir behind her, this young woman wrapped a white cotton garment around herself in front of this stranger, “You certainly know how to scare a person, Mister”. She spoke with an anxious smile.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

The Lost Art of Bel Canto【電子書籍】[ Leta Whitney ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Lost Art of Bel Canto【電子書籍】[ Leta Whitney ]

Leta Fulton Whitney's The Lost Art of Bel Canto is the most important modern work written on the subject of the bel canto (beautiful singing) method.

First, it tells the story of the life of voice and piano teacher William Lincoln Whitney. It describes how he learned from his father and from the greatest masters in Europe in the late years of the 19th century. He went on to teach thousands of pupils, including the great Eleanor Steber.

The teaching materials in the second part of the book are a compilation of Mr. Whitney's personal notes and mark-ups of music. These materials were assembled by his wife, Leta, in the 1950s. Before becoming Mrs. Whitney, Leta had been William's pupil. She grasped everything about bel canto and went on to teach the method herself.

Finally, the book concludes with a charming passage written by William L. Whitney II, the son of William and Leta. His memories offer additional insights into the life of his wonderful father and mother.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

In Search of Lost Time: Swann's Way: A Graphic Novel【電子書籍】[ Marcel Proust ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】In Search of Lost Time: Swann's Way: A Graphic Novel【電子書籍】[ Marcel Proust ]

With its sweeping digressions into the past and reflections on the nature of memory, Proust’s oceanic novel In Search of Lost Time looms over twentieth-century literature as one of the greatest, yet most endlessly challenging, literary experiences. Influencing writers like Virginia Woolf and James Joyce, and even anticipating Albert Einstein in its philosophical explorations of space and time, In Search of Lost Time is a monumental achievement and reading it is a rite of passage for any serious lover of literature.

Now, in what renowned translator Arthur Goldhammer says might be “likened to a piano reduction of an orchestral score,” the French illustrator St?phane Heuet re-presents Proust in graphic form for anyone who has always dreamed of reading him but was put off by the sheer magnitude of the undertaking. This New York Times best-selling graphic adaptation reveals the fundamental architecture of Proust’s work while displaying a remarkable fidelity to his language as well as the novel’s themes of time, art, and the elusiveness of memory. As Goldhammer writes in his introduction, “The reader new to Proust must attend closely, even in this compressed rendering, to the novel’s circling rhythms and abrupt cross-cuts between different places and times. But this necessary attentiveness is abetted and facilitated by the compactness of the graphic format.”

In this first volume, Swann’s Way, the narrator Marcel, an aspiring writer, recalls his childhood whenーin a now-immortal moment in literatureーthe taste of a madeleine cake dipped in tea unleashes a torrent of memories about his family’s country home in the town of Combray. Here, Heuet and Goldhammer use Proust’s own famously rich and labyrinthine sentences and discerning observations to render Combray like never before. From the water lilies of the Vivonne to the steeple and stained glass of the town church, Proust’s language provides the blueprint for Heuet’s illustrations. Heuet and Goldhammer also capture Proust’s humor, wit, and sometimes scathing portrayals of Combray’s many memorable inhabitants, like the lovelorn Charles Swann and the object of his affection and torment, Odette de Cr?cy; Swann’s daughter, Gilberte; local aristocrat the Duchesse de Guermantes; the narrator’s uncle Adolphe; and the hypochondriac Aunt L?onie.

Including a Proust family tree, a glossary of terms, and a map of Paris, this graphic adaptation is a surprising and useful companion piece to Proust’s masterpiece for both the initiated and those seeking an introduction.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

Sunny's Nights Lost and Found at a Bar on the Edge of the World【電子書籍】[ Tim Sultan ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Sunny's Nights Lost and Found at a Bar on the Edge of the World【電子書籍】[ Tim Sultan ]

Imagine that Alice had walked into a bar instead of falling down the rabbit hole. In the tradition of J. R. Moehringer’s The Tender Bar and the classic reportage of Joseph Mitchell, here is an indelible portrait of what is quite possibly the greatest bar in the worldーand the mercurial, magnificent man behind it.

The first time he saw Sunny’s Bar, in 1995, Tim Sultan was lost, thirsty for a drink, and intrigued by the single bar sign among the forlorn warehouses lining the Brooklyn waterfront. Inside, he found a dimly lit room crammed with maritime artifacts, a dozen well-seasoned drinkers, and, strangely, a projector playing a classic Martha Graham dance performance. Sultan knew he had stumbled upon someplace special. What he didn’t know was that he had just found his new home.

Soon enough, Sultan has quit his office job to bartend full-time for Sunny Balzano, the bar’s owner. A wild-haired Tony Bennett lookalike with a fondness for quoting Shakespeare and Samuel Beckett, Sunny is truly one of a kind. Born next to the saloon that has been in his family for one hundred years, Sunny has over the years partied with Andy Warhol, spent time in India at the feet of a guru, and painted abstract expressionist originals. But his masterpiece is the bar itself, a place where a sublime mix of artists, mobsters, honky-tonk musicians, neighborhood drunks, nuns, longshoremen, and assorted eccentrics rub elbows. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming city, Sunny’s Nights is a loving and singular portrait of the dream experience we’re all searching for every time we walk into a bar, and an enchanting memoir of an unlikely and abiding friendship.

Praise for Sunny’s Nights

“Fantastic . . . [Sultan takes] material that might seem familiar and [mixes] a perfect, insightful cocktail: full-bodied, multitextured and delicious. . . . Simply beautiful.”ーThe New York Times Book Review

“Sultan’s love of Red Hook shines through, and it’s hard not to be swept along on the ebb and flow of his emotions. . . . Sultan’s book is, among other things, a meditation on the fragility of the moment and the passage of time. . . . Wistful, funny and biting, Sunny’s Nights rewards you with its evocation of a certain place in time and, as Sultan calls him, ‘the most original man I have ever met.’”ーNewsday

“An affectionate portrait of the idiosyncratic Sunny’s Bar.”ーUSA Today

“Sultan finds Sunny . . . a real character, a poet, a cinephile, a philosopher, bluegrass maestro and (Rheingold) beer server.”ーNew York Post (“Required Reading”)

“Captivating . . . a classic story about a local bar.”ーThe Buffalo News

“An enchanting memoir, a profound meditation on place and a beautiful story of an unlikely and abiding friendship.”ーBrooklyn Daily Eagle

“[A] polished, affecting look at remarkable barkeep Sunny Balzano . . . In elegant prose, Sultan deploys laconic humor, an instinct for telling details, a taste for eccentricity, and above all, clear-eyed compassion for our all-too-human failings.”ーPublishers Weekly (starred review)

“Beautifully wrought . . . an indelible portrait of an unusual man and a nearly forgotten part of NYC.”ーBooklist

“More than an elegy for a bar and a neighborhoodーit’s also a vivid and loving portrait of the larger-than-life eccentric who gave the bar its name and its spirit.”ーTom Perrotta, author of The Leftovers
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

Oh, yeah, my Mum and Dad will love that.
So, he drags me to this other place, where toilet paper hasn’t been invented yet and expects me to be her. No way! Not my monkey! That is until I learn of Fircule’s Big Plan to Destroy the Universe. N’arth is just the beginning, Earth is next on his list. The sooner I do what I have to do, the sooner I can get back to Earth and warn it of Fircule’s plan.
The fantasy becomes reality but it’s not that easy. Nuselmir hasn’t got a plan. Just impersonate Raylene. Great. And there’s so much he doesn’t tell me, like why nobody likes Raylene. Not only have I been transported to a new place I’ve got no friends and I can’t sing. It’s tough, really tough. Except for the training with the sword, that I do pretty well at. BTW, Sword Master is not impressed when I searched the armoury and choose the king’s boyhood sword.
Things go from tough to unbearable when my ‘father’ King Alexander visits Nuselmir’s island keep and tries to get me killedーtwice. Oh, and thanks Nuselmir but, if I die on N’arth that’s it. I’m dead. The king leaves the keep believing I’m dead and this is the thing that changes everybody’s mind about me. So, I don’t actually have friends, but I do have respect and loyalty from the servants and soldiers and this inspires me to look out for them.
If the king finds out I’m still alive...
I search maps and plans and eventually find a place for us all to escape to, a cave accessed through a secret passage that starts in my room. We barely get away before the king’s assassins strike.
Five of us. Me, of course. Yannah, my maid and Raylene’s childhood friend. Dieter, a bastard kitchen hand. Brghyn a humanoid alien. And an unconscious Nuselmir.
We can’t do anything to rouse Nuselmir and decide to find the Red One, a reclusive healer who might live near the Ridge, where Brghyn’s race live. It’s my idea to disguise ourselves and hopefully avoid detection on the road by the king’s soldiers.
The journey is fraught with danger and deprivation, but we eventually make it to the city of Pleth, where I meet a really old guy called Sim. In a soundproof room, he teaches me the Last Song, embeds a clear crystal in my sword, and dies.
Fircule must have heard the singingーwhich isn’t surprising because he’s the one who used a Dron to stop singing in the first place. He sends his mate Herlon to grab me, only I’m with Yannah this time, and takes us to Herlon’s Nodal Mines. We are three months in the mines where the task of killing the life source of N’arth nearly kills me.
Why do I obey Herlon?
How do we escape?
Do Brghyn, Dieter and Nuselmir find the Red One.
What happened to the real Raylene?
Why me?
Who saves N’arth?
Read The Lost to join me on my adventure and find the answers to these questions.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

Near the close of the Civil War, as General Sherman blazed his path to the sea, an unknown infantryman rifled through the North Carolina state house. The soldier was hunting for simple Confederate mementosーmaps, flags, official correspondenceーbut he wound up discovering something far more valuable.
