McCarthy Colonel USAF (Ret) was born in South Dakota in June 1951. His family then moved to Wisconsin, where he lived until he was five. They then relocated back to his mother’s hometown in New England and attended a Catholic grammar school and then a four-year college preparatory school. At age thirteen, he began working at a florist’s and then, at sixteen, for a non-union trucking company. He later earned his BS in mathematics and, in 1973, entered the United States Air Force, receiving his Commission in December 1973. He spent the next thirty-plus years as a USAF officer, first as a crewmember, then as an instructor and flight commander in the Air Training Command and in Headquarters ATC and in the Pentagon. In 1994 he achieved the rank of full colonel, and in 2004 he retired from the USAF. For the next eleven years, he worked as a defense contractor supporting training programs within the intelligence community.＜/p＞ ＜p＞McCarthy retired for the final time in October 2014. Since my own study of the Bible's timeline opened my eyes to some of God's biggest truths, my goals is to introduce as many people as possible to the rich experience of studying Scripture with a focus on God's timing.＜br /＞ Second Peter 3:8 states, "But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (NKJV). Whether the time frame is accurate is not the question now, but this passage suggests that a day of time is much different for God from how it is for us, His creation. It is hard for me to comprehend how a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day, but that is how it appears to God.＜br /＞ The Almighty stands outside of time. He created time and operates within it when He chooses. God can move in and out of time as He desires. Wayne Grudem rightfully states, :It is evident throughout Scripture that God acts within time and acts differently at different points in time." (1)＜br /＞ The Bible records what God has done in the past and what He plans to do in the future to bring us to salvation. If we study Scripture well, we will discover a number of important things about how God operates. From the very beginning of human history, man has needed a Savior (see Genesis 3:15). Although Jesus Christ came nearly 2,000 years ago, we are waiting for Him to return and finish what He started.＜br /＞ The church worldwide needs to be awake when Jesus Christ returns. Believers do not want to be like the disciples who fell asleep in the garden of Gethsemane, failing to pray and keep watch with Jesus (Matthew 26:36-46). If we are spiritually asleep when Jesus returns, we will miss one of the greatest moments in the history of the world. We must keep our lamps trimmed and burning.＜br /＞ This is why it's crucial for us to pay attention to the Bible's timeline. The purpose of this book is to give you (the reader) important keys to help you better understand God's plan and His character through studying the time frame of Scripture. God is marching methodically through His Word. The book of Revelation instructs us that God's Word has not come to an end yet, but the end of this time of grace and salvation is approaching. We must use the precious time we have to reach the lost--those who have yet to receive Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as their personal Savior. He is the Savior of the world.＜br /＞ Through my countless hours of study into God's timing I have become a different person. I fully know and trust that God will act when He is ready according to His timetable, not mine. He has taught me to be patient and endure difficult circumstances with a sense of hope and expectancy. It was with hair-raising excitement and anticipation that she listened to these stories told by school friends and others, and her imagination ran wild as she experienced vicariously the exploits of the heroes who lived to tell the tale.＜/p＞ ＜p＞The “doorstep group” in the tales is composed of young people and children. Some of the names of the people in this group are of actual people she knew in the village and she uses these people to tell the stories. However, the stories they tell are pure fiction and they never really experienced whatever befell the characters in them. For example, June (the author) told a story of douens but she never saw one and Cecil surely never met a real diablesse. As well, the characters in the stories that the group tells are all fictitious and bear no resemblance to anyone extant. The stories come from the author’s imagination while using the folklore of Moruga as a framework upon which to flesh out the characters and the plots. As for the tale about the mermaid, that is the author’s own story. Indeed, the only mermaid she had ever heard anything about was the one from Hans Christian Andersen.＜/p＞ ＜p＞With the passage of time, it is possible that the oral tradition of storytelling may die out and important folklore may be lost. The last two were written after the publication of the original book and the author hopes that these will continue to grip your imagination. They are in a slightly different vein from the others and do not take place in Grand Chemin and environs (neither does Tale #9 where the setting is anywhere in Trinidad).
