Kosho & Co., the predecessor of Toyo Enterprise, was the main suppliers of the souvenir jackets and other garments for U.S. bases at the time. By the 1950’s, during its peak, Kosho & Co. had acquired 95% of entire souvenir jacket market. Using predominantly white threads, the embroidery employs varied stitch directions to create depth-expressing the tiger’s fur, stripes, and the dynamic tension of its forepaws gripping the rocks.
The chest tiger is also larger than usual, enhancing the impact of the bold embroidery, while black ribs accented with red lines give the jacket a sharp finish. The reversible side presents a landscape design embroidered on a solid black body, using soft pastel threads in colors such as blue and pink to depict scenes of Japan.
