Deep, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, it nevertheless stays perfectly balanced, has ultra-fine, still present tannins, incredible purity, and a gorgeous finish. This is one of those wines where one bottle will never be enough. I think it’s spectacular today, yet it will no doubt evolve for another 20-30 years in cold cellars. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc brought up in new barrels, hats off to Jean-Luc Thunevin for this truly legendary Saint-Emilion! It feels super balanced, serious, with depth and complexity, subtle, nicely integrated, fine-boned and balanced. This feels more harmonious, more than most of the rest of 2022s. It's tasty, subtle and elegant. These last few vintages are a lot more elegant and less rustic than the wines were in the past, and the tannins are fine-grained and round. 18,000 bottles produced. I had some problems with the mushroom notes on the nose of my sample (as if there were botrytized berries), whereas the red and yellow stone fruit aromas (redcurrant, raspberries, mirabelles) remained discreet. The palate is clean, fresh and round, a bit too round perhaps (or too sweet) for my personal taste and thus a bit clunky in the intense and textured finish. Showing much less oak influence than the Argonne and the Fut de Chene the Code Noir is vital, displaying aromatic red berry and ripe stone fruit flavors in the lean, pure and fresh aftertaste, yet this bottle fails to stimulate me. 8.000 bottles produced. Bright and explosive, with tons of linear drive, the 2018 is exceptionally polished. Cabernet Sauvignon is up to 80% of the blend, and that very much comes through in a wine endowed with tremendous purity. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, sage, mint and blood orange all race across the palate. Both 2018s will take their place among the best wines ever made here. Maurizia di Napoli and her brother, Luca, craft wines of notable intensity and pedigree. Of the two flagship wines, D'Alceo is a bit more opulent, likely because the terraced vineyards are south and south-east facing, while Sammarco has a bit more tannic backbone and energy. This wine grips tightly to the palate with ample fruit weight and rich concentration. It is chiseled and tight, mostly thanks to its structure and tannins, giving this wine great promise for future aging. The Sammarco stands apart from the other wines in this portfolio that all promote a punchy, bright or natural style. This bottle brings on the brawn, ripe fruit, black olive and a much greater sense of lasting power. Production is 16,672 bottles and 150 magnums. My absolute favorite wine of 2022 was a bottle of the Castello dei Rampolla 2006 d'Alceo that I had the good fortune to drink at dinner during a work event in Tuscany last year. I remember the wine vividly, and if I were to review it again, it would certainly merit a perfect score. With that profound inspiration in mind, I feel especially optimistic toward this outstanding group of new releases from Maurizia di Napoli and her talented team. This historic estate has farmed according to organic and biodynamic methods since 1994, making it one of the first in Italy to do so. In truth, I have found some inconsistencies along the way over the many years I have reviewed and adored these wines. Such is the magic of artisanal winemaking. But thanks to that memory of that 2006 d'Alceo, I remain in awe of Castello dei Rampolla today. A blend of 72.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27.5% Merlot that represents 40% of the production, this astonishing wine hit 14.3% natural alcohol. Extremely ripe and rich, it reminds me of the 1982 on steroids (and that wine is still drinking great 30 years after the vintage). Sensational notes of graphite, crushed rocks, black fruits, camphor and damp forest notes are present in this expansive, savory, full-throttle wine, which is better than many vintages of the great Latour itself from the past. (That may be a heretical statement, but it's the truth as I see it.) This wine needs a good 5-6 years of cellaring and should age for three decades at minimum, given the fact that the 1982 is in terrific form and wasn’t this concentrated or prodigious. Elegant and round on the seamlessly textured palate, this is a rich but refined and savory, very intense and sustainable Pinot Gris that was nearly fermented to dry. Just 8.5 grams per liter of residual sugar perfectly balance the 14.5% of stated alcohol, as do the remarkably fine tannins that are typical of the finest Pinots. This is a great wine to enjoy with starters like foie gras or any pâté. Tasted in November 2024. As is well known, Marc Tempe has retired and not produced any wine since the 2022 harvest. He has leased his 8.5 hectares of vines, which have been cultivated biodynamically for many years, to Hunter/McKirdy, Le Grange de l'Oncle Charles and Florian Spannagel's Les Vignes du Vingabond. However, Marc and his wife Anne-Marie still have wines to sell. Tempe matured his fully ripe, full-bodied and sustainably structured wines on the lees for a long time (and as long as possible without adding sulfur) and only marketed them two to three years after the harvest. Medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless, with a vibrant core of fruit, beautifully refined tannins and lively acids, it's exquisitely elegant and harmonious, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. Stylistically, this wine exhibits a much closer affinity with the great Domaine de Chevalier of yesteryear than much of what was produced here in the early 2000s. It's a masterclass in what contemporary Bordeaux can deliver, and worth a special effort to seek out. This 67-hectare estate in Pessac-Leognan is at the top of its game today, and the 2019 vintage is a striking success. When the Bernard family purchased Domaine de Chevalier in 1983, the vineyards amounted to only 20 hectares: expansion followed in the woodlands (much of which remain) that occupy this site, on the same stony gravel and black sand over iron-rich clay that defines the estate's historic vineyards. It's a cold site in winter, surrounded by trees, but warm in summer, as the stones reflect heat and the black sands absorb it. Farming is now organic and biodynamic, with experiments with cover crops and unhedged canopies, and drainage to improve more humid parcels. Sauvignon Blanc is planted in the estate's coolest sites, Cabernet Sauvignon on its warmest, and everything else is planted in between. Since 1983, Domaine de Chevalier has naturally evolved: as new plantings came online, the wines lost some of the intensity-without-weight that had always been their signature; in the early 2000s, a concerted effort was made to attain fuller maturity and more concentration, and the wines became a little chunkier and more obviously oaky, too; but recent years have seen a return to seamless elegance, without any loss of depth or persistence. In many respects, indeed, the last few vintages of Domaine de Chevalier bear a closer stylistic kinship to the great wines produced at this address in the 1970s and before than they do to the vintages of the early 2000s. Within five minutes of aeration it develops a complex bouquet: black fruit laced with graphite and subtle cedar aromas, a charcoal back-note and later pressed iris flowers. I foresee this gaining more nuance with bottle age. The palate is taut, lean and precise. Lightly spiced on the entry, with finely-chiseled tannins, again, not quite as precocious as it showed in barrel, allowing the terroir to come through more. There is something almost understated about this vintage vis-a-vis others, razor-sharp precision with just the right amount of salinity on the finish. This is a classy offering that will mature beautifully in bottle. Impossibly soft, silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red fruit, spice and orange zest. The 2020 is not a huge Cos, but rather a wine for readers who appreciate elegance over power. They produced it with the grapes from 40 of the 210 hectares of vineyards they have, with a total of 55 separate plots and 19 different soils. It's mostly 95% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that are cooled down for 24 hours and then fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation was in stainless steel and the aging in 225-liter oak barrels and 20,000-liter oak vats for a long time as this was bottled in June 2018. 2012 is a concentrated year, warm and dry with some rain at the end of September that helped the end of the ripening process of healthy grapes with lots of color and ripe tannins. The wine has a ripe nose, with intoxicating notes of black fruit, fresh meat and blood, a spicy touch from the American oak and an earthy twist. It's a voluptuous and decadent vintage for Vega Sicilia, for those that favor years like 2006, a bit atypical, or 1999. The wine finished with 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.88 and 5.1 grams of acidity (tartaric). 88,188 bottles, 3,537 magnums, 328 double magnums, 55 imperials and five Salmanazar produced. Vega Sicilia has increased the capacity in oak vats-they have 40,000 liters more. The 2016 Barolo Brunate shows a dark core of fruit, and you are immediately aware of the depth and profound nature of this wine. The bouquet is lifted by cassis, wild cherry and plum. The ferrous quality that we saw in some of the other wines is softer here, and I would describe Brunate as the most fruit-forward (at this young stage) with elegant tannins and impactful fruit weight on the finish. All of these wines are aged in new oak (just 10% of the total) and used oak barrel (90%) for the first 12 months. ≪パーカーポイント 92‐95点！≫ 2023 Domaine Vincent Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons The Wine Advocate RP (92-95) Reviewed by:Kristaps Karklins Release Price:NA Drink Date:N/A Informed by deeper soil than Sechet, the 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons opens from the glass with aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, tangerine and smoke. Extroverted, full-bodied and textural, with a chalky grip and saline finish, Vaillons is more open-knit than its neighbor Sechet. However, this youthful charm can be deceitful, as, based on my experience enjoying this cuvee 10 or even 15 years after harvest, it always richly rewards patience. Vincent Dauvissat is one of the greatest vignerons in France, producing some of the most soulful wines not just in Chablis but across the entire Burgundy region. Dauvissat, who once considered a career as a shepherd, ultimately became a vigneron and, though technically retired, remains a vital presence at his eponymous domaine. His personality, both meditative and meticulous, is reflected in his wines, which, provided the cork holds well, are incredibly long-lived. The estate's 12-hectare size is modest but enough to have built a strong reputation for itself and vineyards?there’s hardly anyone more synonymous with Sechet or La Forest than Dauvissat. Its farming practices are organic, though not certified. Harvest is done by hand, and after fermentation in tanks, the wines are racked into barrels (including the smaller-sized feuillettes, which are easy to spot when tasting at this address, as they are placed in the very center of the cellar), where they spend two winters aging on the fine lees. Dauvissat’s wines go into barrel after fermentation in tank with plenty of lees, and perhaps this provides a point of distinction?in addition, of course, to different farming practices?from Raveneau's somewhat broader-shouldered, more textural wines, which go into barrel with very little in the way of solids. Another distinguishing feature of Dauvissat’s winemaking is the handling of the wines post-aging: the first bottling, typically destined for the American market, undergoes light filtration, while a second?a later bottling?is unfiltered, and some of those are sealed with wax, while others see a foil capsule. The range begins with Petit Chablis, based on parcels of Portlandian limestone, and Chablis Village, produced mostly from vines that face his holdings in La Forest, both routinely overperforming the reputation of their appellations and are aging very well. The range continues with four premiers crus: Sechet is a dry and mineral wine, sourced from a small parcel within Vaillons where hard limestone lies close to the surface. It is distinct from Vaillons itself, which is broader and more textural, as the soils here are deeper. The contender to Vaillons for the most youthfully expressive, charming wine is Montee de Tonnerre, the most powerful of his premiers crus. One of the best-known wines is the taut and remarkably pure La Forest; amounting to 4.5 hectares, La Forest accounts for a third of the domaine’s surface area. The grand cru duo completes the range, standing out as particularly mineral and pure?Les Preuses is more ethereal, while the muscular, richly structured Les Clos offers a striking contrast. Which of the two is superior is open to interpretation, but at their best, these are some of the finest white wines in Burgundy. Dauvissat’s wines are highly structured and can be tight and even closed in the early years after bottling. However, with proper aging?often 10 to 15 years?they reveal their full potential, offering a deep expression of the site. While much commercial Chablis is utterly predictable, Vincent Dauvissat’s old-fashioned wines are anything but: their phases of evolution and the way they respond to oxygen are unlike almost anything else in the region. This also means that for younger vintages decanting or early opening is highly recommended. As the wine ages, it is more marked by producer and vineyard than it is by its vintage signature, which is another recurring theme with Dauvissat’s wines. There’s no grower in the region who has done a better job of retaining all of Chablis’s classical signatures, even in the warm, sunny vintages that are more present in the contemporary Chablis, as the wines retain the tension and salinity one seeks where many others produce more fruit-driven, even soft wines. He used more stems and full clusters in 2020, and since 2018, they have removed the percentage of white grapes that used to be included in the wine. It's a little more Mediterranean, with aromatic herbs and a more powerful palate. There will be some 120,000 bottles from 2020. Raul Perez doesn't stop. Beyond the huge range of wines I tasted, he has more?the R+D wines under the RaulPerez label, and he has FOUR whole new projects, of which I tasted only Valdecanada (from Ponferrada). The Valdecanada project started in 2008/2009 when he bought a winery in the zone of Ponferrada (Cabildo) that came with to hectares of vineyards. The grapes were added to the Ultreia wines, but he saw the potential to achieve lower alcohol and more freshness and decided to start separating them in 2015. It's a zone with schist and slate soils. The wines that age in that winery are all aged under a veil of flor yeast, which allows him to work with very little to no sulfur. The style of the wines is quite different from the other wines from Perez. There are three very different zones in Bierzo?Corullon, Valdecanada and Valtuille?different soils and altitudes, and he now works in two of them. He tends to favor 2020 against 2019, but it's difficult to generalize. 2020 is easier, more immediate, similar to 2010.

Rich but vibrant, this 2019 reflects the new precision that Frederic Faye has brought to Figeac; but while it's richer and more polished than the wines of yesteryear, the estate's identity hasn't been lost. Director of Chateau Figeac since 2013, Frederic Faye emphasizes precision and timing when he characterizes the estate's evolution over the last decade. Harvest now lasts three or four weeks, stopping and starting, so each parcel of this 41-hectare vineyard can be picked at optimal maturity. Farming is similarly adapted parcel by parcel, emphasizing sustainability. And a brand-new winery triples the team's working space, with small tanks so each parcel can be vinified separately. Yet the objective is to polish Figeac, not to change it. If the estate's wines are now suppler and fuller, their classically Cabernet-rich assemblage hasn't altered. Delicate and pristine, yet compact with lots of energy and power to uncover in the coming years. It lasts for minutes and is delicious now. The purity of fruit is really impressive. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. 50% new oak 15% old oak and 35% concrete amphorae. Try after 2027. Harvest began on the 14th September for the Merlot, and the final lot of Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on 30th September. Opaque purple-black in color, it needs significant aeration and swirling to coax out evocative notes of black cherry preserves, raspberry pie, blackcurrant pastilles and damp soil, before launching into gorgeous floral and spice notions of red roses, cinnamon stick, star anise and cardamom, with a waft of crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a lot of depth and polish, delivering mouth-coating red and black fruits with loads of fragrant earth and floral sparks, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral tinged. This is a singular, fascinating expression of the vintage and highly recommended! VINOUS：(95-97) ポイント (95-97) Drinking Window 2035 - 2060 From: 2020 Bordeaux En Primeur: Almost Back to Normal (Jun 2021) The 2020 Pontet-Canet is captivating effort from the Tesseron family. The intensely perfumed, savory bouquet is immediately alluring. Deep and substantial, the 2020 is luxuriously rich from start to finish. Swaths of incisive tannin wrap around a core of dark red cherry fruit, gravel, dried herbs and rose petal, and a whole range of floral and savory accents lend aromatic presence. The Pontet-Canet is often a charmer en primeur, but the 2020 comes across as quite serious. I can't wait to see how it develops. As always, one of the signatures of Pontet-Canet is a high proportion of Merlot vis-a-vis its peers among top Left Bank chateaux that lends tremendous midpalate weight. In 2020 production is within historical norms. Mildew pressure was high, but not as severe as in 2018, when two-thirds of the crop was lost in a single day. Harvest took place September 14-30, a bit more of a compact time frame than normal, and a good 7-10 days earlier than is typically the case.
