At the time of writing this chapter, I was pushing on sixty-four years of age and I was finally free.

I have no one to impress and no one to perform for. I am not afraid of death anymore. If I die right now, it is ok with me. God has already done so much more for me than I’ve ever deserved, and I know where I’m going.

The Word of God says to work out your salvation in fear and trembling. Although I backslide every other day, I repent daily and strive to keep under His grace. A big part of my healing is winning souls with this testimony.

There were many times I nearly lost my faith and even questioned if this whole Christianity thing was not just a giant con-job, created by people to cling to, to justify the lives we live; whether it's just our inner fear that makes us know right from wrong, we call it conscience but God calls it the Holy Ghost.

I broke through that threshold and had found the open line by being gritty and experiencing those principles which He had given us as guidelines. The most important being the law of reciprocity, which basically means: you reap what you sow - starting from Genesis to the book of Revelation. God's grace and forgiveness are for real; the worst things that could’ve happened to me has, and I’m still around.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】White-Jacket; or, The World in a Man-of-War (With Audiobook Link)【電子書籍】[ Herman Melville ]

White-Jacket; or, The World in a Man-of-War, usually referred to as White-Jacket, is an 1850 novel by Herman Melville first published in England on January 23 by Richard Bentley and in the U.S. on March 21 by Harper & Brothers. It is based on his fourteen months service in the United States navy, aboard the frigate United States.

Based on Melville's experiences as a common seaman aboard the frigate USS United States from 1843 to 1844 and stories that other sailors told him, the novel is severely critical of virtually every aspect of American naval life and thus qualifies as Melville's most politically strident work. At the time, though, the one thing that journalists and politicians focused on in the novel was its graphic descriptions of flogging and the horrors caused by its arbitrary use; in fact, because Harper & Bros. made sure the book got into the hands of every member of Congress, White-Jacket was instrumental in abolishing flogging in the U.S. Navy forever. Melville scholars also acknowledge the huge number of parallels between White-Jacket and Billy Budd and view the former as a rich source for possible interpretations of the latter.

The symbolism of the color white, introduced in this novel in the form of the narrator's jacket, is more fully expanded upon in Moby-Dick, where it becomes an all-encompassing "blankness."[3] The mixture of journalism, history, and fiction; the presentation of a sequence of striking characters; the metaphor of a sailing ship as the world in miniatureーall of these prefigure his next novel, Moby-Dick.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Star Rover, or, The Jacket【電子書籍】[ Jack London ]

The Star Rover is a novel by American writer Jack London published in 1915 (published in the United Kingdom as The Jacket). It is a story of reincarnation.

A framing story is told in the first person by Darrell Standing, a university professor serving life imprisonment in San Quentin State Prison for murder. Prison officials try to break his spirit by means of a torture device called "the jacket," a canvas jacket which can be tightly laced so as to compress the whole body, inducing angina. Standing discovers how to withstand the torture by entering a kind of trance state, in which he walks among the stars and experiences portions of past lives.

I trod interstellar space, exalted by the knowledge that I was bound on vast adventure, where, at the end, I would find all the cosmic formulae and have made clear to me the ultimate secret of the universe. In my hand I carried a long glass wand. It was borne in upon me that with the tip of this wand I must touch each star in passing. And I knew, in all absoluteness, that did I but miss one star I should be precipitated into some unplummeted abyss of unthinkable and eternal punishment and guilt.

The accounts of these past lives form the body of the work. They are in effect a series of powerfully written, but disconnected and unresolved, short stories. The writing sometimes rises to the level of poetry, sometimes sinks to the level of purple prose. According to Kevin Starr, London planned a historical novel of the West and used some of this material in The Star Rover.

Puller Hobbs, war weary veteran, wants little more than to truly be the man that his wife and daughters assume him to be. But he senses that a piece is missing. Hoping to be an artist and possessing the technical skills, Puller is nonetheless void of vision. He works as a carpenter, an occupation with little ambivalence and, safely, little need for introspection. But one day at work, a violent and fatal accident impels in him a formidable artistic insight that he urgently needs to express. Standing between him and fulfillment, however, is his Vietnam past.
Living in rural East Texas, caretakers of an antebellum plantation, the Hobbs family are surrounded by and caught up in a century and a half of racial inequities that Puller, having fought beside men of all colors, cannot condone. A close friendship with their black neighbors becomes a foreground for his first real work of art. But through this work, a voice ? a persona ? from the past reaches out and, frightened, Puller confronts a psychological trauma that had never healed. The scar had merely been plastered over, in the fashion of many combat veterans, when Puller had patched together his post-war sanity. Now he must face a terrible possibility: an essential part of himself may be irrevocably lost.
His role as father and husband both eases and complicates Puller's quest. One day he finds a tangible war memento, a child's embroidered jacket bearing the words: Chu Lai, Vietnam. The jacket is a talisman of a traumatic event that forced a sundering, a division, of his very psyche. It was the start of what he remembers fearfully as his madness, which he feels creeping up around him again. When Kelly, his six-year-old daughter, refuses to wear the jacket, Puller's disappointment leads him to wonder just what sort of imagery the child bears of her father's role in the war. What exactly did he do?
The journey into the darkness of his own past is his only route into a hopeful future. Without the love of family and friends, he fears he will be hopelessly lost. The Chu Lai Jacket is a story of the sort of renewal that every combat veteran deserves to find.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Your Jacket Needs More Hairballs Poems by Cats for the People who Serve Them. The Poetry Anthology of The Warm Kitty Institute【電子書籍】[ Alice Eileen Fritz ]

The Warm Kitty Institute was founded in 2011 to further research and development for providing real and lasting warmness for kitties. The Institute enjoys worldwide reknown for furthering the cat-lead research sciences.

Less well known is that the Warm Kitty Institute similarly houses many prolific literary cats. The feline poets of the Institute, however, would rather nap than write poetry books for re-gifting, so their first Anthology is a long time coming.

The Institute issued a call for poetry to the various and far-flung Warm Kitty Insititute annexes worldwide. By and large, the kitties preferred to respond with carefully posed selfies. But a few poems arrived also.

Reading poems by cats may prove ill-advised, but much in the literary realm shares that distinction. Their poetry orbits a few interrelated themes: napping, eating, the desire to kill, and lodging formal complaints about the lodgings. The Institute chose to include many of the selfies in the premier Anthology; no one wanted to inform those kitties that selfies don’t count as poetry, even when they are very pretty.

Join in a journey through feline obsessions, rivalry, and tradition. And selfies.

By the 1790s, Red Jacket was frequently the diplomat chosen by the Seneca Nation and the Iroquois Confederacy to represent them in councils and treaty negotiations between the United States, the British in Canada, and the Indian nations of the Ohio Country.

Red Jacket spoke eloquently against the sale of Indian lands, against the encroachment of the white man’s religion and culture, and in defense of Indian sovereignty.

The Jacket is a novel by American writer Jack London published in 1915 (published in the United States as The Star Rover).

The jacket itself was actually used at San Quentin at the time; Jack London's descriptions of it were based on interviews with a former convict named Ed Morrell, which London used as a name for a character in the novel. For his role in the Sontag and Evans gang which robbed the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1890s, Morrell spent fourteen years in California prisons (1894-1908), five of them in solitary confinement. London championed his pardon. After his release, Morrell was a frequent guest at London's Beauty Ranch.

Jack London (1876-1916) was an American author, journalist, and social activist. He was a pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction and was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone.

London's most famous novels are The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, The Iron Heel, and Martin Eden.

Nick Hornby meets Patti Smith, Mean Streets meets A Visit From the Goon Squad in this quintessential New York City story about two people who knew each other in the downtown music scene in the 1980s, meet again in the present day, and fall in love.

Mike knew June in New York’s downtown music scene in the eighties. Back then, he thought she was “the living nightーall the glamour and potential of a New York night when you’re 25.” Now he’s twice divorced and happy to be aloneーso happy he’s writing a book about it. Then he meets June again. “And here she was with a raincoat over the back of the chair talking about getting a divorce and saying she’s done with relationships. Her ice-calm eyes are the same, the same her glory of curls.”

Jacket Weather is about awakening to loveーdizzying, all-consuming, worldview-shaking loveーwhen it’s least expected. It's also about remaining alert to today's pleasuresーexploring the city, observing the seasons, listening to the guys at the gymーwhile time is slipping away. Told in fragments of narrative, reveries, recipes, bits of conversation and snatches of weather, the book collapses a decade in Mike and June’s life and shifts a reader to a glowing nostalgia for the present.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】An Account of Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha, or Red Jacket, and His People, 1750-1830【電子書籍】[ John Niles Hubbard ]

The "Life and Times of Red Jacket" by Colonel William L. Stone, has been before the public for many years. The industry and ability of the author have made it a work of great value, and his extensive researches have left but little room for anything new to be said, by one coming after him. Yet the fact need not be concealed that many, who were intimately acquainted with Red Jacket, were disappointed when they came to read his biography. If it had been prepared under the direct influence and superintendence of Thayendanegea, or Brant, it could not have reflected more truly the animus of that distinguished character. Red Jacket in his day was the subject, at different times of much angry feeling, and jealousy. The author has not taken pains to embalm it, in these memorials of the great orator of the Senecas. Much that was the subject of criticism during his life, admits of a more charitable construction, and the grave should become the receptacle of all human resentments. The author acknowledges his indebtedness to the labors of Col. Stone, and by an honorable arrangement, liberty was obtained for the use made of them, in the following pages. Acknowledgments are due also to others, whose names will appear in the course of this work.

The Star Rover is a novel by American writer Jack London published in 1915 (published in the United Kingdom as The Jacket). It is science fiction, and involves both mysticism and reincarnation.
