'Broadcasting at Its Best', jubelte die 'Times', w?hrend der der 'Daily Telegraph' meinte: 'The BBC has never served the nation better' und auch im Ausland herrschte ausufernde Begeisterung. Nur zwei Tage sp?ter war in einem Leserbrief an die 'Times' dagegen von Vorbehalten gegen?ber der BBC zu lesen, die zu dieser Zeit gleichsam zur publizistischen Tagesordnung geh?rten: '[...] any monopoly of so powerful an influence over the minds of men as broadcasting can no longer be defended [...] a measure of competition should be permitted [...]' Was Professor Hugh Wilson als 'one of the most interesting and significant political actions of the post-war period' bezeichnet, soll in der vorliegenden Arbeit auf seine n?heren Ursachen untersucht werden.

“My favorite Leonard book….He writes the way Hammett and Chandler might write today, if they sharpened their senses of ironic humor and grew better ears for dialogue.”
ーDallas Morning News

“The best writer of crime fiction alive.”
ーNewsweek

Dangerously eccentric characters, razor-sharp black humor, brilliant dialog, and suspense all rolled into one tight packageーthat’s The Switch, Elmore Leonard’s classic tale of a kidnapping gone wrong…or terribly right, depending on how you look at it. The Grand Master whom the New York Times Book Review calls, “the greatest crime writer of our time, perhaps ever,” has written a wry and twisting tale that any of the other all-time greatsーDashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, John D. MacDonald, James M. Cain, Robert Parker…every noir author who ever walked a detective, cop, or criminal into a shadowy alleyーwould be thrilled to call their own. Leonard, the man who has given us U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (currently starring in TV’s Justified) is at his storytelling best, as a spurned wife decides to take a rightfulーand profitableーrevenge on her deceiving hubby by teaming up with the two thugs he hired to abduct her.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Switch An Off and On History of Digital Humans【電子書籍】[ Jason Puskar ]

From the telegraph to the touchscreen, how the development of binary switching transformed everyday life and changed the shape of human agency

The Switch traces the sudden rise of a technology that has transformed everyday life for billions of people: the binary switch. By chronicling the rapid growth of binary switching since the mid-nineteenth century, Jason Puskar contends that there is no human activity as common today as pushing a button or flipping a switchーthe deceptively simple act of turning something on or off. More than a technical history, The Switch offers a cultural and political analysis of how reducing so much human action to binary alternatives has profoundly reshaped modern society.

Analyzing this history, Puskar charts the rapid shift from analog to digital across a range of devicesーkeyboards, cameras, guns, light switches, computers, game controls, even the “nuclear button”ーto understand how nineteenth-century techniques continue to influence today’s pervasive digital technologies. In contexts that include musical performance, finger counting, machine writing, voting methods, and immersive play, Puskar shows how the switch to switching led to radically new forms of action and thought.

The innovative analysis in The Switch makes clear that binary inputs have altered human agency by making choice instantaneous, effort minimal, and effects more far-reaching than ever. In the process, it concludes, switching also fosters forms of individualism that, though empowering for many, also preserve a legacy of inequality and even domination.

The basic mantra of acting is "Know Yourself" ie "Know thy self" and to get this basic mantra, Virendra Rathoreji's book "Switch on Switch of Acting Method", is a great effort to learn acting. I wholeheartedly congratulate him. He has tried to explain the mantra of learning acting in a very simple and easy way. But the more simple and easy it is presented, the deeper it is. Getting to the bottom of that matter, understanding and recognizing yourself, your emotions, will be easier by following the process in this book.
In this book, every aspect of acting is explained with excellent examples. The rest is up to you how much you understand yourself by examining all these things. In acting, "You are the instrument and you are the one playing", so it is up to you and only you to understand and fine tune yourself. And all this is possible with austerity, madness and a real passion to be an actor.
Once again, best wishes to Virendraji !
-Paintal, Popular Actor, Comedian, FTII Alumni, Former Head of the Acting Department of FTII

People have been playing music on homemade instruments for thousands of years. But creating new instruments is much more than an art form. When you want to make a note sound higher or lower, you have to change the sound waves coming out of the instrument. That's science! When you explore the way different materials produce different sounds, that's engineering. When you speed up or slow down a song, you're counting beats -- using math.

During the latter phases of Covid, Isobel Williams completed her celebrated translations of the polyamorous ancient Roman poet Catullus. The poems that proved impossible when she prepared Shibari Carmina, published to acclaim in 2021, finally surrendered to her. 'Translating Catullus has been, for me, like cage fighting with two opponents, not just A Top Poet, but the schoolgirl I was, trained to show the examiner that she knew what each word meant.' The conflict was resolved by a third component, the context of shibari, a Japanese form of rope bondage with its own knotty terminology. Due to its severe restraints Catullus came alive in all his 'tormented intelligence and romantic versatility'. Critics called the work 'explosive and impactful', 'one of the most exciting translation volumes of recent years', 'lyrical, funny, engaging, and insightful', 'a bracingly foul, but also a shrewd and funny Catullus' ? 'Isobel Williams' naughty translation puts the Roman poet in a bondage dungeon.' He will never be quite the same again. Switch joins Carcanet's Classics series. Like its incomplete predecessor it is illustrated with bondage drawings by the translator herself. She adds a 'who shagged whom' chart so readers can move confidently from one engagement to the next.

Television is the most powerful system of images in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Nonetheless, TV has attained only little philosophical attention so far, especially compared to other (visual) media such as film. This book looks at TV as what happens on the screen and beyond it; which is mainly the operation of switching images. It therefore proposes a new definition of TV as the first picture that can be switched on, off, and over, which stresses that TV is more tactile than visual.

Through the operation of switching, TV figures the world from within and as the course of its figuration. This is grasped here by the term of “ontography”. Through the ongoing interlacing and bridging of “TV 1.0” (the image is being switched) and “TV 2.0” (the image is a switch), TV exponentially increases the production and circulation of images. It transforms the world and itself from an analogue state to a digital one and from central perspectivism to pluri-perspective. In terms of time, through switching and the switch, it develops and reworks new temporal orderings, such as instantaneity, synchronicity, flow, and seriality. TV makes its own history. In space, it creates a mediasphere as its habitat and hence new forms of being-in-the-world, of proximity and distance, and scale. Anthropologically, it works on what a subject and an object is, on what makes the human being, and ontographically, how it is possible that there is something at all instead of nothing: through switch-images.

Real photographers are able to take better photos because they understand what their cameras's auto mode is doing, and when to over-rule it and let creativity reign. This book will make you a real photographer.

Simple

Photography Beyond Auto is an easily accessible guide which will set you free.

Concise

Unlike other books, Photography Beyond Auto does not attempt to explain every switch, dial and button on your camera, or explore precisely where each pixel comes from.
One of the world's great designers shares his vision of "the fundamental principles of great and meaningful design", that's "even more relevant today than it was when first published" (Tim Brown, CEO, IDEO).

Even the smartest among us can feel inept as we fail to figure out which light switch or oven burner to turn on, or whether to push, pull, or slide a door.

The fault, argues this ingenious -- even liberating -- book, lies not in ourselves, but in product design that ignores the needs of users and the principles of cognitive psychology. The problems range from ambiguous and hidden controls to arbitrary relationships between controls and functions, coupled with a lack of feedback or other assistance and unreasonable demands on memorization.

The Design of Everyday Things shows that good, usable design is possible. The rules are simple: make things visible, exploit natural relationships that couple function and control, and make intelligent use of constraints. The goal: guide the user effortlessly to the right action on the right control at the right time.

The Design of Everyday Things is a powerful primer on how -- and why -- some products satisfy customers while others only frustrate them.

Keep Working. Keep Playing. Keep Creating.

In his previous books Steal Like an Artist and Show Your Work!, both New York Times bestsellers, Austin Kleon gave readers the keys to unlock their creativity and showed them how to become known. Now he offers his most inspiring work yet, with ten simple rules for how to stay creative, focused, and true to yourselfーfor life.

The creative life is not a linear journey to a finish line, it’s a loopーso find a daily routine, because today is the only day that matters. Disconnect from the world to connect with yourselfーsometimes you just have to switch into airplane mode. Keep Going celebrates getting outdoors and taking a walk (as director Ingmar Bergman told his daughter, ”The demons hate fresh air”). Pay attention, and especially pay attention to what you pay attention to. Worry less about getting things done, and more about the worth of what you’re doing. Instead of focusing on making your mark, work to leave things better than you found them.

Keep Going and its timeless, practical, and ethical principles are for anyone trying to sustain a meaningful and productive life.

Carcanet publishes several Catulluses: C.H. Sisson's, Len Krisak's, Simon Smith's. But Isobel Williams's Catullus: Shibari Carmina is different in kind from the earlier versions. 'Translating Catullus has been, for me, like cage fighting with two opponents,' the translator writes: 'not just A Top Poet, but the schoolgirl I was, trained to show the examiner that she knew what each word meant.' The struggle is intensified by the presence of a third element, something that made Catullus come alive, his 'tormented intelligence and romantic versatility.' 'It eventually happened at a fetish venue in South London, The Flying Dutchman ? an echo of Catullus's doomed obsessive love? Someone at life class, knowing I like a drawing challenge, had told me about a Japanese rope bondage (shibari) club called Bound. I asked the management if I could draw there; on arrival I was treated like the Queen Mother. Best of all, the schoolgirl was too young to be let in.' The dynamics of shibari released Catullus from conventional constraints and delivered him to new rigours: 'I found context, metaphor and idiom for Catullus ? whom one could glibly define as a bisexual switch from the late Roman Republic when such concepts were meaningless: a stern moralist who splits into an anxious bitchy dominant with the boys, a howling sub with his nemesis, the older glamorous married woman he calls Lesbia (here called Clodia, which might have been her real name).' The poet uses the terminology and forms of social media, a very contemporary idiom which is at once subjected to severe scholarship and tight syntactical discipline. All the crucial language knots are firmed up, the sense of the Latin emerges with Catullus's own laughter restored, along with the other registers of love and loss. Isobel Williams's drawings add immediacy to her versions which 'are not (for the most part) literal translations, but take an elliptical orbit around the Latin, brushing against it or defying its gravitational pull.'

Because Timoth?e Chalamet's eyes gleam with the light of a thousand suns. Because you'd let Zo? Kravitz get away with putting gum in your hair. And because there really should be a national monument dedicated to Gene Kelly's ass.

From the tongue-in-cheek to the righteously enraged, She Found it at the Movies explores women's secret desires, teen crushes, and one-sided movie star love affairs, flipping the switch on a century of cinema's male-gaze domination. With misogyny and sexism still taking centre stage in the real world -- what can women's relationships with movies tell us about the wider landscape of sexuality, politics and culture?

Featuring writers you know and love from Buzzfeed, The Guardian, and Vulture, these essays pose thoughtful questions about the politics of desire. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】How Comics Are Made A Visual History from the Drawing Board to the Printed Page【電子書籍】[ Glenn Fleishman ]

“No one, before now, has written a history of the comic strip as a technological artifactーnot, at least, in such depth, and on such a sound foundation of research.”?? Michael Chabon, author, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay

If you love comics, you’ll love this visual history of comic strips featuring all of the methods, techniques, and wizardry that made the funny pages such an important staple of American life. Featuring interviews with dozens of the century's most famous cartoonists and hundreds of rare archival images.

How Comics Are Made covers the entire history of newspaper comics from a unique angleーhow they were made and printed. This book combines years of research and dozens of interviews with cartoonists, historians, and production people to tell the story of how a comic starts with an artist’s hand and makes it way through transformations into print and onto a digital screen. You’ll see reproductions of art and artifacts that have never appeared in print anywhere, and some historic comics will appear for the first time ever in any medium in this book. And you’ll find out about metal etching, Dragon’s Blood (a real thing), flong (also a real thing), and the massively, almost impossibly complicated path that original artwork took to get onto newsprint in the days of metal relief printing.

The book is divided by time and transitions, from the start of consistently appearing daily and weekly comics in newspapers:

The Early Days: From the Yellow Kid in the 1890s to the 1910s

Syndication in Metal: When it became affordable to make hundreds or thousands of copies of daily strips to send around the country (or world), from the 1910s to 1970s

Flatland: Newspapers’ switch from relief to flat printing and the shift to purely photographic transformations from the 1950s to the 1980s

Pixel Perfect: The transition from photographic to digital, from scanning to digital creation, from the 1970s to 2000s and through the present day

Webcomics and Beyond: Look, ma, no ink! Digital comics read online and sometimes put on press to make books

Each section features interviews with artists, reproductions of original cartoon art, printing and coloring artifacts, and the way cartoons appeared in printーor on screen.

Chapter 1: The Morning Light

The kettle whistled softly, steam curling through the early light like a ghost rising. Janelle stood at the stove, one hand on her hip, the other gripping a chipped mug. She wore a tired hoodie over an old tank top, her curls twisted up in a frizzed bun. The house was smallーtwo bedrooms, peeling linoleum, and a fridge that hummed louder than it should. But it was hers. The silence was peaceful now, not loaded with tension or fear.

In the next room, Ava was organizing breakfast with her brothers like she’d done it a hundred times before. Elijah, age six, had poured cereal onto the table more than into his bowl, and four-year-old Caleb was licking peanut butter off a spoon with great satisfaction.

Janelle leaned on the doorframe and watched them, a fragile smile tugging at her lips.

“Mom,” Ava said without looking up, “we’re out of bananas.”

“That’s because someone eats them like candy,” Janelle teased, nudging Elijah with her foot as she walked by. He giggled, sticky hands reaching up for a hug.

This was the best part of her day. Before school, before work, before the hustle and grind wore her down again. In these quiet moments, she could pretend everything was normal.

But normal was a mask she’d learned to wear too well.

Ava’s voice interrupted her thoughts. “Mommy, are you okay?”

Janelle blinked. The words hit harder than they should have. Not because they were strangeーbut because they weren’t. Ava had asked that question three times this week. And Janelle had given the same answer each time: “Of course, baby. I’m fine.”

But she wasn’t fine.

She was tired. Not just from working two jobs or from barely sleeping, but from carrying the weight of memories she had never unpacked. From hiding the scars under long sleeves. From pretending that the years of yelling, gaslighting, and bruises hadn’t left their imprint on her soul.

She crouched next to Ava, brushing a strand of hair behind her daughter’s ear.

“I will be,” she said softly.

Ava’s eyes held hers for a momentーbig, brown, and full of quiet understanding far beyond her years. She nodded, as if she believed her mom. Or maybe as if she just needed to.

Janelle kissed her forehead and stood, swallowing the lump in her throat. She had made it through worse. She could make it through this.

But deep inside, a voiceーfaint and unfamiliarーwhispered that maybe it was time. Time to face what she had buried. Time to stop surviving and start healing.

She wasn’t sure where to begin. But something in Ava’s question stayed with her long after she dropped the kids at school and headed to her cleaning shift.

Are you okay?

No.

Not yet.

But maybe… someday.

Chapter 2: The House of Secrets

Janelle was eight when she learned how to disappear without leaving the room.

She sat in the corner of the living room, knees pulled to her chest, while the sound of the TV echoed through the thin walls. Her mother, Simone, laughed too loud at a sitcom no one found funny. The boyfriendーRayーsat beside her, one hand always holding a bottle, the other resting too easily on Simone’s thigh.

Janelle hated that hand.

He always looked at her too long. Spoke to her like she was older than she was. Called her “baby girl” in a way that made her skin crawl.

She had told her mother once. Just once.

“He comes in my room sometimes when you’re asleep,” Janelle had whispered, standing in the narrow kitchen, her voice barely rising above the hum of the fridge.

Her mother didn’t look up from her cigarette. “He wouldn’t do that.”

“Iーheー” Janelle stammered. Her eyes burned. Her voice cracked.

Simone turned then, her face hardened by things Janelle didn’t yet understand. “Don’t go telling lies just because you don’t like who I’m with.”

That was it. One sentence. One moment that taught Janelle it was safer to keep her mouth shut.

So she did.

She learned to sleep light, never facing the door. She kept clothes on even under the blankets. She stopped crying, stopped asking for help. At school, she was quiet but polite. Teachers liked her, called her “a sweet girl.” No one saw the hollowed-out center behind her eyes.

Ray eventually leftーafter two years of stealing Janelle’s childhood. Simone replaced him with another man. Then another. Some were cruel, others indifferent. All of them treated Janelle like she was invisible unless they needed something from her. She learned to cook young. Learned to lie to the neighbors. Learned how to smile when nothing felt good.

By thirteen, Janelle had perfected the art of escape. She’d slip out after school and stay at the library for hours, pretending to read while mostly just existing in silence. There was something sacred in those quiet halls, something safe.

One librarian, Miss Harding, used to set aside books for herーmysteries, fantasy novels, poetry. “You’ve got a curious mind,” she said once, smiling gently. “Don’t let anyone dim that light.”

Janelle never forgot that. A single kindness in a world full of indifference.

But curiosity was a dangerous thing when you lived in a house of secrets. So Janelle folded herself smaller each year. She survived by shrinking.

And yet, nowーdecades laterーthose memories lived just beneath her skin, pulsing with every loud voice, every slammed door, every touch she hadn’t consented to.

In her small apartment, she stood in front of the mirror after her shift, wiping away the sweat from her brow. She looked at herselfーnot just the tired eyes and worn hands, but the girl still trapped inside.

“You’re not there anymore,” she whispered to her reflection.

But some part of her still was.

And that part was readyーfinallyーto be seen.

Chapter 3: Bruises and Bargains

Janelle met Marcus when she was nineteen. He was twenty-five, charming in the way older men sometimes seemed to beーespecially to girls who had grown up needing protection they never got.

He worked at a tire shop. Drove a beat-up Mustang. Smoked menthols. He always had something slick to say, and he knew exactly how to make Janelle feel seen. For a girl like herーbroke, half-invisible, and carrying wounds no one had noticedーattention felt like safety.

At first, it was sweet.

He’d bring her food when she forgot to eat. Walk her home from her job at the diner. Call her “baby girl” in a way that somehow didn’t make her flinchーat least not yet. He said all the right things: You’re beautiful. You deserve more. I’ll take care of you.

And she believed him.

Because believing him was easier than admitting she had no one else.

They moved in together six months later. Janelle had dropped out of community college to work full-time. Marcus said she didn’t need school. Said she had everything she needed right here. For a while, she told herself he was right.

Then came the first broken plate.

It wasn’t about anything bigーshe’d forgotten to wash his clothes. His voice had turned sharp, a sound she hadn’t heard before. He yelled. Loud. Slammed his fist on the table.

Then, like flipping a switch, he kissed her forehead and said he was sorry.

He had a temper, that’s all. Men got angry. She’d seen worse. She told herself it was normal.

But it wasn’t just yelling. It became silence when she tried to speak. Jokes that dug like blades. Questions like, Why are you wearing that? Who were you talking to? You think you’re better than me now?

She didn’t see it as control at first. She saw it as love.

Then Ava was born.

For a while, Marcus softened. He doted on the baby. Brought diapers, held her during cartoons. But stress changed him againーmoney was tight, bills piled up. His kindness became rare. His anger returned.

The first time he hit her, Ava was two. Janelle was six months pregnant with Elijah.

It wasn’t a punch. Just a backhand across the mouth, swift and stunning. She dropped to her knees and tasted copper. He said she was “talking reckless.” That she needed to learn how to respect him.

Janelle didn’t scream. She didn’t run.

She made a bargain with herself instead.

If he doesn’t do it again… if the kids don’t see… if I can just keep him calm…

She walked on eggshells for years, dancing between moods, reading his face before he even spoke. She told herself she stayed for the children. That it was better to have a father in the houseーeven a broken oneーthan no father at all.

But deep down, she knew the truth.

She stayed because no one had ever taught her what love should really feel like.

She stayed because she believed pain was the price of belonging.

She stayed because survival was all she knew.

But Ava was watching. And one night, her daughter’s eyesーwide, quiet, and questioningーforced Janelle to see it all for what it was.

Not love. Not safety.

Just another prison.

Chapter 4: The Whisper That Changed Everything

The night was quiet in the kind of way that used to feel dangerous.

Janelle lay in bed, her arms wrapped tightly around her youngest, Caleb, whose warm breath tickled her col画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

Amphitryo centers on the mythological story of the hero Amphitryon, whose wife, Alcmene, is visited by Jupiter disguised as her husband. The play explores themes of divine intervention, mistaken identity, and jealousy, with comedic confusion arising from the gods' interference in human affairs. Asinaria is a lively tale about a young man, who is in love with a woman but needs money to marry her. He enlists the help of a clever slave, who tricks his miserly father into providing the necessary funds. In Aulularia, also known as The Pot of Gold, the plot revolves around a miserly old man, Euclio, who hoards a pot of gold. His obsession with protecting his treasure leads to a series of comical misunderstandings and the eventual revelation that greed causes more harm than good. Bacchides follows two young men who fall in love with two women, only to find that their plans are thwarted by the manipulations of two clever sisters. In Captivi, Plautus explores the story of two captives, one free and one enslaved, who switch places to outwit their captors and find freedom. These plays, though each distinct, share common themes of deception, trickery, and the reversal of fortunes, highlighting Plautus' skill at blending social commentary with humor.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Otamatone Songbook 53 Easy Songs from Different Countries Simple Sheet Music - Just Follow the Circles!【電子書籍】[ Helen Winter ]

This book includes 53 popular, rhythmic, and easy-to-play folk songs and melodies from all over the world. Through music, we are brought together, and we can gain a better understanding of people from all corners of the Earth.

We recommended scanning the QR code on each page and listening to the melody and rhythm before playing. This is the most natural method to learn music. You do not need to have any musical experience or be able to read music using this book. Our circles do not show the pitch and duration of notes and rhythmic patterns. All melodies were simplified for a one-octave Otamatone.

The Otamatone is an electronic musical device that operates on batteries. Its name blends the Japanese "otamajakushi" (which means "tadpole" or "ladle") with "tone," reflecting both its appearance and the sounds it produces. Though originally made as a toy, it has gained popularity among musicians as a playful yet expressive instrument.

How to Use

Move the volume switch on the back to the right and adjust it to a moderate level.
Tap the black strip on the stem with your fingers to generate sound.
One of the Otamatone’s most entertaining aspects is its flexible, squeezable face! While holding down a note, press both sides of its head to open its mouth, altering the tone with a vocal-like "wah" effect.

Adjusting the Pitch

Deluxe Models: Generally, these start at C and extend up to G-sharp (covering about one and a half octaves), but some variations begin at different notes, such as F to A. Refer to the manual for specifics.
Standard Models: These span a single octave from C to C. Due to their compact size, shifting between notes requires minimal finger movement. You can adjust the octave range with the switch on the back.
Digital Models: Unlike standard and deluxe versions, which use a smooth, touch-sensitive strip, digital models feature piano-style keys along the stem for a different playing experience.

If your Otamatone doesn’t have labeled notes, you can use masking tape along the stem and mark note positions with the help of a tuner. The free "Otama Tuner" website can assist in identifying pitches. For beginners, pre-made Otamatone note stickers (available on Amazon) can be a convenient solution.

Be aware that note placement isn’t fixedーit can shift up or down due to temperature, humidity, and battery levels. Installing fresh batteries can restore its pitch range, but the instrument cannot be permanently tuned to keep notes in the same spots. Because of this, avoid marking notes directly on the stem with permanent ink. However, digital models remain consistently in tune.
Playing Techniques
Pressing Method

Simply press the stem with your fingertips to produce a sound. This is the easiest way to play and perfect for beginners.
Sliding Method

Hold down the stem while gliding your fingers up or down to change pitch. This allows for fluid transitions that aren’t possible on fixed-pitch instruments like a piano. Maintain steady pressure while sliding for a smooth sound.
Vibrato Effect

Hold a note and rapidly shake your wrist to add a quivering effect.
Alternatively, grip the Otamatone’s face with your thumb and middle finger while gently moving your hand, causing the whole instrument to vibrate for a similar sound.

Portamento (Gliding Notes)

Move seamlessly between notes by sliding your fingers along the stem, much like playing a slide whistle.
"Wow" Effect

For a human-like vocalization, press a note and then squeeze the Otamatone’s face to open its mouth. This produces a distinctive "wow wow" sound, giving the illusion that the instrument is singing. To achieve the best result, play the note first and then open the mouth.
Expanding Your Sound

If you have an "Otamatone Neo" or "Otamatone Techno", you can connect it to external devices for even more versatility. Use a "3.5mm stereo cable" to link it to a smartphone and unlock new sounds with the "Otamatone Studio app". This app offers:
- Sound effects
- Instrument variations (guitar, violin, flute, synthesizer, even a cat’s meow!)
- Different musical scales
- Rhythm settings
- A piano keyboard simulation for more precise playing

List of Songs

North America
Alice the Camel
Ani Couni Chaouani
Aura Lee
Bim Bum Biddy
Buckeye Jim
Jacob's Ladder
Li'l Liza Jane
Kum-Ba-Yah
Michel Row Your Boat
Over the River
Peace Like a River

Latin America
Brinca la Tablita
Cucaracha
DoDo Petit PoPo
Tingalayo
Cumpleanos Feliz
Lost my Gold Ring
Los Pollitos Dicen

Africa
Banuwa
Che Che Koolay
Do-Do-Ki-Do
Funga Alafia
Kanzenzenze
Labe-igi-Orombo
Obwisana
Sansa Kroma
Shosholoza
Welcome Song

Europe
Five Little Ducks
Five Little Monkeys
Hush Little Baby
Old Mother Hubbard
This Old Man
See-Saw Margery Daw
Buenos Dias
Donde estan las Llaves
Au Clair de la Lune
Pirouette Cacahuete
Frere Jacques (Are You Sleeping?)
Un Petit Cochon
Vous Diraije Maman (Twinkle Little Star)
Giro-Giro-Tondo
Oh Che Bel Castello
Mein Hut (My Hat)

Asia
Kalinka
Kum Bachur Atzel
Anile, Anile
Gayatri Mantra
Maha Mrityundjaya Mantra
Zhao Peng You
Hotaru Koi

Australia & Oceania
Epo-i-Tai-Tai-e
Kangaroo, Skippy Roo

The Otamatone is an electronic instrument that requires a battery to operate. The word "Otamatone" combines the Japanese "otamajakushi" (meaning "ladle" or "tadpole") and "tone," referencing the instrument's shape and sound. Originally designed as a toy, it has evolved into an instrument that even musicians can enjoy.

How to Play

Slide the rear volume switch to the right and set the volume to a medium level.

Press the black part of the stem with your fingertips to produce sound.

One of the Otamatone’s most charming features is its fun, squishy face! While pressing the stem, squeeze both sides of its face to open its mouth - this alters the sound, creating a “wow” effect similar to human vocals.

Tuning Your Otamatone

- "Deluxe Models": Typically start at C and go up to G-sharp (spanning one and a half octaves), though some versions start at different notes, like F to A. Check your instruction manual for details.
- "Standard Models": Cover a single octave from C to C. Because of their smaller size, you don’t need to slide your finger far to reach the next note. Use the "octave switch" on the back to shift to a higher or lower range.
- "Digital Models": Feature piano-like keys on the stem, while standard and deluxe versions have a smooth, touch-sensitive bar.

If the notes aren't labeled, you can place a piece of masking tape along the stem of your otamatone and mark the spot on the stem using a tuner. The free "Otama Tuner" website can help you identify pitches. For beginners, "pre-made Otamatone stickers" (available on Amazon) are a handy option.
Keep in mind that the note positions on an otamatone can move up and down the stem. This happens because things like heat, humidity, and low battery affect its range. Changing the batteries can raise the range again, but you can’t tune an otamatone to always have the same note in the same spot. That’s why you shouldn’t mark notes on the stem with a permanent marker.
However, if you have a digital model, it will always stay in tune.

Different Playing Techniques

Push Technique
Press the stem with your fingertips to produce a sound. This is the simplest way to play and ideal for beginners.

Sliding Technique
Press and hold the stem while sliding your fingers up or down to change pitch. This allows for smooth, expressive transitions that aren’t possible on traditional 12-note instruments like a piano or recorder. Apply firm, even pressure while sliding to maintain a continuous sound.

Vibrato Technique
- Hold a note with your thumb and shake your wrist quickly to create a trembling effect.
- Alternatively, hold the Otamatone’s face with your thumb and middle finger, then move your hands gently while pressing the stem. This shakes the whole instrument for a similar effect.

Portamento
Glide seamlessly from one note to another by sliding your fingers along the stem - similar to playing a grass whistle.

Wow Technique
For a voice-like effect, press a note and then squeeze the Otamatone’s face to open its mouth. This creates a “wow wow” sound, making it look like the Otamatone is singing! Timing is key - press the note first, then open the mouth for the best effect.

Expanding Your Sound

If you have an "Otamatone Neo" or "Otamatone Techno", you can connect it to external devices for even more versatility. Use a 3.5mm stereo cable to link it to a smartphone and unlock new sounds with the "Otamatone Studio app". This app offers:
- Sound effects
- Instrument variations (guitar, violin, flute, synthesizer, even a cat’s meow!)
- Different musical scales
- Rhythm settings
- A piano keyboard simulation for more precise playing

List of Songs

A Hunting We Will Go
A Sailor Went to Sea
Acka Backa
Amazing Grace
Alphabet Song
Are You Sleeping?
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Baby Bumble Bee
Bell Horses
Bim Bum Biddy
Bobby Shafto
Brahms Lullaby
Chumbara
Cobbler, Mend My Shoe
Cock-a-Doodle Doo
Cotton Eyed Joe
Ding Dong DiggiDiggiDong
Do You Know the Muffin Man?
Doctor Foster
Doggie Doggie
Fiddle-Dee-Dee
Five Little Ducks
Five Little Monkeys
Frog in the Meadow
Happy Birthday
Here We Go Looby Loo
Hot Cross Buns
Humpty Dumpty
I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas
I Love Little Kitty
It's Raining
Itsy Bitsy Spider
Jack and Jill
Jingle Bells
Jolly Old Saint Nicholas
Kookaburra
La Cucaracha
Lavender’s Blue
Li’l Liza Jane
Little Jack Horner
London Bridge
Long-legged Sailor
Mary Had a Little Lamb
Michael, Row the Boat Ashore
Miss Mary Mack
My Hat
Ninety-Nine Bottles
Ode to Joy
Oh Susannah
Oh We Can Play on the Big Bass Drum
Old Bald Eagle
Old Blue
Old McDonald
Old Mother Hubbard
One, Two, Three, Four
Peace Like a River
Rain, Rain, Go Away
Ring Around the Rosie
Row Row Your Boat
Rub-a-Dub-Dub
See-Saw Margery Daw
Ten in the Bed
Ten Little Fingers
The Baker
The Bear Went Over the Mountain
The Bee and the Pup
The Big Sheep
The First Noel
The Mulberry Bush
The Wheels on the Bus
This Old Man
Tinga Layo
To Market, To Market
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
When the Saints Go Marchin In
Wishy Washy Wee
Yankee Doodle

Darwin's crucial hypothesis is that heterostyly serves as a mechanism to sell move-pollination, thereby increasing the genetic variety of plant populations. He explores how the particular preparations of stigma and anthers in special floral bureaucracy encourage pollinators to switch pollen among vegetation of various bureaucracy, preventing self-fertilization.
