While some sayings are similar to those found in the canonical Gospels the majority are not, and this makes the Gospel of Thomas so special, we have another dimension. This is the 'Gnostic Jesus' needless to say HE has found theologians wanting, having the view it much safer to leave any interpretation of these 'Sayings' well alone, while some making an attempt have based theirs on matching text found in other Gospels. While such a framework for exposition is sound it does not reveal the 'Gnostic Jesus'. ＜p＞In ancient Bharatha, 64 arts were taught in the gurukulas, history being one of them. In these pages of history, we come across the enthralling account of the lives of great Maharshis, Sage Markandeya being one of them. He also figures among the Puranapurushas. He was born in the Bhrigu clan and was also called Bhargava, Bhrigunandana, and so on. He was an intellectual giant from birth and mastered the Vedas and Shastras. He also developed all the great qualities expected of a good human being and turned out to be a paragon of virtues. Unfotunately, he was destined by Lord Brahma to live a short but meaningful life. However, the saptharishis blessed him with a long life which was not in accordance with the creator's blessings. So when the day of his doom actually arrived, Markandeya chanted the Mrithyunjaya Manthra, prayed hard to Lord Sankara and chanted 'Aum' with a pure heart. Lord Yama himself came to take him when Lord Sankara came out of the Sivalinga which young Markandeya held in an embrace. Yama had to beat a hasty retreat after being told by Sankara that the young boy had conquered death by severe tapas. Needless to say that the young boy's worried parents were supremely happy at the turn of events. Markandeya was such a great tapasvi that Indra felt threatened. So, when he sent Kamadeva, Vasantha and a few apsaras to distract him, they failed. At the end of his tapas, Lord Nara-Narayana himself appeared before him and blessed him to experience the Vaishnavi maya. Markandeya was ensnared by the tentacles of Lord Mahavishnu's maya and he spent thousands of years struggling in the sea of deluge. This is when he had a strange experience, that of the Lord's Vaishnavi Maya ? he was sucked into a child's body where he saw the entire creation of the Lord and then was thrown out by the force of the child's breathing. Lord Siva felt that people like the sage had the capacity to make others pure by their very darshan. After this , Markandeya wrote a famous epic which came to be known as Markandeya Purana. He got initiated to Shiva Sahasranama and composed Skandanama Sankeerthana and Sri Krishnamahima. Sage Markandeya remained by the side of the Pandavas whenever they were in trouble and infused confidence into them. He was present when Bhisma cast away his mortal body. He believed that only one force was true and real on earth and that was Sri Krishna. He believed that clean words, clean work and clean water (source of life) can raise man from being mundane to divinity. Once these were turned on, they could make fatal disappearances, but just delivered in an unplugged state to offices would make several people nauseous as they handled them.＜/p＞ ＜p＞It wasn't long before the circuit was out on the Internet as a gag toy. Integrated circuits were printed about the size of a tiny battery, with self-adhesive. It didn't have to be hard-wired into the machine, but could be simply pasted inside the battery cover or any inconspicuous spot on or in it.＜/p＞ ＜p＞Toy bears with electronic pull-string circuits became poo-poo gifts. Several versions of "honesty" testers were developed, all powered by the people themselves and "no batteries required." Someone funded a program to get wooden pens gifted to every member of Congress and all their staffs. A month's supply of toilet paper ran out in a week.＜/p＞ ＜p＞....＜/p＞ ＜p＞And a religious TV interviewer found out that his button would affect his guests in different ways. He found that asking the person if they had ever taken money to throw a game, there wasn't any reaction. The circuitry wouldn't work on a bald-faced lie. But by asking pointed questions, such as "What they felt about people taking money to throw games?" That would get them leaving the interview quickly, and for obvious reasons. If one did that, the result would be only a pale and incomplete portrait of what was intended by the composer. That thought has guided us in the making of this book.＜/p＞ ＜p＞Despite the huge obstacles that resulted from the transposition of a piece originally written for the piano - a very rich instrument regarding the expressive recourses - to the more "modest" guitar, we always kept in mind our principal intention: to preserve at the most all the melodic dialogues of the scores, in special the ones between the melody and the bass line, both the elements that form the soul of Nazareth's compositions. We had to make some changes. Thus, for instance, in some arrangements it was necessary to transpose the original key to a more appropriate one (from the guitar viewpoint, of course). Some phrases or fragments had also to be written an octave higher or lower (that can be perfectly understandable if we consider the wide melodic range of the piano and the extensive way Nazareth uses it). Needless to say, all those recourses were used only when it was strictly necessary. Although those 28 pieces are only a small portion of Nazareth's work, this group of arrangements represents a good and representative panel. Among them, there are some of Nazareth's greatest hits ("Apanhei-te Cavaquinho", "Odeon", "Brejeiro", "Ameno Reseda", etc.) as well as other not-so-well-known compositions- but no less beautiful and important. Listening to those pieces, one can observe the compositional talent of Nazareth and his incredible harmonic, melodic, and - especially - rhythmic versatility. As the additional information thus acquired is seldom published, duplication of such experiments occurs again and again,ー a waste of time and material. It is hoped these difficulties may be remedied by the publication of this series of pamphlets. In other words, the authors hope to make this a clearing house for the exchange of information as to methods of preparation of some of the most needed organic chemical reagents.＜/p＞ ＜p＞The organic chemicals herein discussed have been quite arbitrarily chosen, being those which have been needed in various research laboratories in the last years and for which the directions happen now to be ready for publication. The methods are in only a few cases new ones; they are in general the most satisfactory to be found in the literature. Only such details have been added as will enable a man with a reasonable amount of experience in organic chemistry to duplicate the results without difficulty. To be absolutely sure that each set of directions can be repeated, every experiment has been carried out in at least two laboratories. ＜p＞The Cincinnati Penal Congress of 1870 ushered in the era of "progressive" penology: the use of statistical and social scientific methodologies, commitment to psychiatric and therapeutic interventions, and a new innovation--the reformatory--as the locus for the application of these initiatives. The prisoner was now seen as a specimen to be analyzed, treated, and properly socialized into the triumphal current of American social and economic life. The Progressive rehabilitative initiatives succumbed in the 1970s to withering criticism from the proponents of equally futile strategies for addressing "the crime problem": retribution, deterrence, and selective incapacitation. The early Christian community developed a methodology for correcting human error that featured the unprecedented belief that a period of time spent in a given penitential locale, with the aid and encouragement of the community, was sufficient in and of itself to heal the alienation and self-loathing caused by sin and to lead an individual to full reincorporation into the community. The "correctional" practice was based upon the conviction that cooperative sociability--or conversion--is possible, regardless of the specific offense, without any need to inflict suffering, or to use the act of punishment as a warning to potential offenders, or to undertake programmatic interventions into the lives of the incarcerated for the purpose of rehabilitating them. Andrew Skotnicki contends that the modern practice of criminal detention is a protracted exercise in needless violence predicated upon two foundational errors. The first is an inability to see the imprisoned as human beings fully capable of responding to an affirmative accompaniment rather than maltreatment and invasive forms of therapy. The second is a pervasive dualism that constructs a barrier between detainees and those empowered to supervise, rehabilitate, and punish them.
