By the time of this release, Loverboy was on a roll. Their previous two albums had scored massively in both their home country of Canada and, perhaps more importantly for sales, the USA. In fact, Get Lucky has sold more than seven million copies. Keep It Up continued the success with the hugely catchy single 'Hot Girls In Love' (which reached #11 on the Billboard singles chart), the upbeat 'Queen Of The Broken Hearts' and very heavy 'Strike Zone' cementing their sound. It was a record that would eventually sell four million copies. Produced once again by long-time collaborator Bruce Fairbairn, the album continued in the same vein as previous recordings, mixing a potent blend of hard rock, sophisticated production and contemporary sounds that were just right for the period. Consisting of a concise nine tracks, the album packs a real punch on all levels, giving the band a long-lasting legacy that has seen them ride out several changes in musical fashion due to the sheer quality of their songwriting and musical talent. Like Cheap Trick and Def Leppard, Loverboy's reputation has continued to grow as time edges ever onwards.

There's no doubt that the 1970s were a golden time for blues infused rock, but it was also a period where the competition for attention was cut throat. For Milwaukee, Wisconsin based four piece Bad Boy the odds were stacked against them, even though they had secured a coveted record deal with the United Artists label and had already gained a foothold with a well-received debut album. Stepping back into the studio they were a far more worldly wise team, and they crafted a record that sat easily beside master craftsmen of the era such as Aerosmith, Derringer, Cheap Trick and Kiss. Originally issued in 1978, Back To Back made for solid listening, focusing on melodic catchy songs with rock solid riffs. Tracks such as 'I Just Wanna Love You' and the funk infused 'Keep It Up' leave no stone unturned in their quest to impress. But the big winners here are the rifftastic 'No Stopping Me Now', and 'Take My Soul'/'Out Of Control', a near eight minute epic of the highest grade.

Getting a record deal was not the easiest of tasks in the 1970s, especially if you were based in the mid-west of America with no real prospect of getting heard by industry big wigs at labels in New York or Los Angeles. There was no Internet, and telephone calls cost and arm and a leg. But, as the saying goes, there is no substitute for hard work, and by building a substantial local reputation, word soon spread that Bad Boy were a band fit for purpose. Catching the ear of producer Bob Brown, who conveniently also worked in artist relations for the respected United Artists label, Bad Boy soon found themselves signed and flown out to Los Angeles to record their debut album. Issued in 1977, the album boasts powerful riffs and memorable songs, the sort of thing that elevated Aerosmith, Ted Nugent and Kiss to superstar status during a time when rough and tumble hard rock was all the rage. 'The Band That Milwaukee Made Famous', may have been a bit of a mouthful at the time but, to those in the know, it made perfect sense, being a humorous parody of a famous advertising hook used by one of the many Beer breweries based in the city. The album sold reasonably well, even making the Billboard charts, but Bad Boy didn't become a house hold name. This album did, however, provide an opportunity for them to record an impressive follow up, Back To Back.

There's no arguing that Loverboy were one of Canada's most successful exports during the '80s, racking up a string of platinum albums at home and the USA and having several hit singles as well. With four huge selling albums under their belt the band refocused their attention by returning to Vancouver's Little Mountain Studios to cut Wildside, utilizing the original production team of Bruce Fairbairn, with engineers Bob Rock and Mike Fraser. All was looking rosy but it soon became clear that things were not as straight forward as they had hoped for. For this album the band once again fully opened up to the opportunity to work with outside songwriters, including names like Bryan Adams that had graced previous tracks, and several new contributors: notably Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. There were less famous names on the selection as well such as Todd Cerney, Gerald O'Brien and Alfie Zappacosta (all well known amongst the melodic rock cognoscenti). Once again the production and arrangements were razor sharp, confirming the band's penchant for showcasing solid and catchy hard rock. Issued in late 1987, the record failed to emulate the massive success of previous releases, stalling both at home and abroad and leaving everyone bemused as to the reason for the commercial soft performance. But the album is still hugely impressive and there was no drop in quality, with tremendous songs like 'Notorious', 'Walking On Fire', 'That's Were My Money Goes', and the title track itself.

Loverboy's rise to fame was pretty much overnight. This well respected five piece Canadian band had struck gold with their debut release in both their home country and the USA, giving them a foothold that showed no signs of eroding. Indeed, Lovin' Every Minute Of It was their fourth album and continued their conquest, offering up two classic hit singles with the title track and 'This Could Be Right', both of which hit the top 10 on the Billboard charts. It was quite a Cinderella story made even more powerful by the fact the band maintained the same line-up, but this time switching from their original studio team to British producer 'Colonel' Tom Allom (Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Krokus) still though opting to record in Vancouver at Little Mountain studio. Paying meticulous attention to detail and choice of material, they had numerous well known contributions including Bryan Adams & Jim Vallance, Jonathan Cain, and, not least of all, Robert 'Mutt' Lange who penned the title track, a standout song that kept their commercial appeal right at the front of the public's interest. With Tom Allom at the desk it was also an album that beefed up the band's rock credentials throwing extra weight behind Paul Dean's guitars and fine-tuning Mike Reno's vocal recordings to an impressively high standard. Issued in August 1985, the album continued their magic chart success, going on to sell over three million copies and garnering impressive reviews from both fans and critics.

2017/9/29 発売UK盤レーベル：CHERRY RED収録曲：(リックデリンジャー)Originally finding fame with The McCoys and their hit, 'Hang On Sloopy', Rick Derringer worked with both Johnny and Edgar Winter, as well as Steely Dan, before going solo in 1973 for "All American Boy". Co-produced with Bill Szymczyk, who would later produce the Eagles, "All American Boy" features guest appearances from Joe Walsh, Suzi Quatro and Edgar Winter, and features his best known hit, 'Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo'. The album also features 'Hold', a song co-written with a then relatively unknown Patti Smith. The bonus tracks include mono single versions of 'Rock 'n' Roll, Hoochie Koo' and 'Teenage Love Affair'. Produced by Rick himself, "Spring Fever" followed in 1975, and includes a revisit to the aforementioned 'Hang On Sloopy', as well as the Rufus Thomas classic, 'Walkin' The Dog'. The album includes guest appearances from Chick Corea on Moog, New York Doll David Johansen on electric harmonica, as well as both Johnny and Edgar Winter. Mono single versions of 'Hang On Sloopy' and 'Don't Ever Say Goodbye' are included as bonus tracks. Forsaking a strictly solo career to form the hard rocking "Derringer" band from 1976 -1978 (available on HNE as "The Complete Blue Sky Albums 1976-1978: 5CD Box Set" - HNEBOX081), Rick returned to recording solo for "Guitars And Women" in 1979, co-produced by Todd Rundgren. Featuring drummer Myron Grombacher and guitarist Neil Geraldo, both from Pat Benatar's band, the songs range from pure power pop, not surprising considering Todd Rundgren's involvement, to near heavy metal with 'It Must Be Love' and 'Need A Little Girl (Just Like You)', written by Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen. Rick saw in the 1980s with "Face To Face", which completes this four CD set. Forming a strong writing partnership with bassists Donald Kisselbach, the album includes a cover of Neil Young's classic 'My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)', and now includes a mono version 'Let The Music Play'. Presented in a "clamshell" style box, each album is presented in it's own card wallet miniaturizing the original LP jacket, plus a 16 page booklet featuring liner notes from Classic Rock and Rock Candy magazine's Malcolm Dome.
