Though the wicked are distinguished into hypocrites and unbelievers, yet hypocrites themselves are unbelievers too. They have no faith which they can justify, by its prevailing efficacy and works; and therefore have no faith by which they can be justified. Because their discovery is needful to their recovery, and all our salvation depends on the sincerity of our faith, I have chosen this text, which is a description of Faith, that the opening of it may help us for the opening of our hearts, and resolving the great question, on which our endless life depends.
To be a Christian, and to be a believer in Christ, are words in Scripture of the same signification. If you have not faith, you are not Christians. This faith hath various offices and objects. By it we are justified, sanctified and saved, We are justified, not by believing that we are justified, but by believing that we may be justified. Not by receiving justification immediately, but by receiving Christ for our justification: nor by mere accepting the pardon in itself, but by first receiving him that procureth and bestoweth it, on his terms: not by mere accepting health, but by receiving the Physician and his remedies, for health.
Faith is the practical believing in God as promising, and Christ as procuring justification and salvation. Or, the practical belief and acceptance of life, as procured by Christ, and promised by God in the Gospel.
No wonder therefore if the Holy Ghost here speaking of the dignity and power of faith, do principally insist on that part of its description, which is taken from this final object.
As Christ himself in his humiliation was rejected by the Gentiles, and a stumbling-stone to the Jews, despised and not esteemed; (Isa. 53:2, 3.) Having “made himself of no reputation;” (Phil. 2:7.) So faith in Christ as incarnate and crucified, is despised and counted foolishness by the world. But as Christ in his glory, and the glory of believers, shall force them to an awful admiration; so faith itself as exercised on that glory, is more glorious in the eyes of all. Believers are never so reverenced by the world, as when they converse in heaven, and “the Spirit of Glory resteth on them;” 1 Pet. 4:14.
How faith by beholding this glorious end, doth move all the faculties of the soul, and subdue the inclinations and interests of the flesh, and make the greatest sufferings tolerable, is the work of the Holy Ghost in this chapter to demonstrate, which beginning with the description, proceeds to the proof by a cloud of witnesses. There are two sorts of persons (and employments) in the world, for whom there are two contrary ends hereafter. One sort subjects their reason to their sensual or carnal interest. The other subjects their senses to their reason, cleared, conducted and elevated by faith. Things present or possessed, are the riches of the sensual, and the bias of their hearts and lives: things, absent but hoped for, are the riches of believers, which actuate their chief endeavours.
This is the sense of the text which I have read to you; which setting things hoped for, in opposition to things present, and things unseen, to those that sense doth apprehend, assureth us that faith (which fixeth on the first) doth give to its object a subsistence, presence and evidence, that is, it seeth that which supplieth the want of presence and visibility. The Syriac interpreter, instead of a translation, gives us a true exposition of the words, viz. ‘Faith is a certainty of those things that are in hope, as if they did already actually exist, and the revelation of those things that are not seen.’

April Stace, a happily-married thirty-five year-old mother, harpist, ordained pastor and aspiring tenure-track professor, thought she had finally "made it" when she accepted a dream job in New York City. Less than a year later, she found herself jobless, divorced, broke, and certain that she had failed in every way that mattered. In a last-ditch effort to support herself and her son, she began training as a chaplain at an urban hospital. As she encountered death day after day, she began to wonder: what would it mean to fall in love with being alive again? In White Knuckle Love, we encounter a spirit who learned to let go of the person she thought she should be in order to embrace life in unexpected places -- hospital rooms, long subway commutes, a lesbian dance club, mundane moments of parenthood, and even in her own checkered past. Can we find our way by losing ourselves? Prepare to fall in love with your life again, too.

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation" Hebrews 2:3.

This "great salvation" includes much more than escape from God's judgment and condemnation, although that escape is of immeasurable benefit. This great salvation also brings believers into the family of God as His children and provides the capacity through His Holy Spirit to transform believers into godly children.

The Mystery of Godliness addresses the wonder of being created and being saved but its major emphasis is the blessed process of becoming godly. Mysteries beg to be solved and clues are needed to do it. As this mystery of godliness is explored, readers will discover clues about the process by which their mind can be renewed and they can be transformed into the image of Christ.

The path to godliness is both a journey and a destination. For many, achieving godliness seems unattainable, as if it were up to the individual; but Scripture teaches that it is a result of the work of God.

Belief drives practice is a central theme of this book. To achieve the goal of godly practice, a person must believe truth. To know truth, a person must know the Lord Jesus and the Bible. What you believe matters; it impacts what you do and who you are. In the course of reading this book, readers will discover many applications of this principle, which are clues to the mystery of godliness. Believing God's truth will result in attitudes and behaviors that are godly.

Through these pages, readers will come to marvel at this "so great salvation" and with a thankful heart come to know and love the Lord Jesus more and more.

Whitman did not subject Lincoln to the literary but to the human motive. Lincoln does not become a literary figure by his touch. Does not become a man in a book. After Whitman is done with him Lincoln still remains Lincoln. No way reduced. No way aggrandized. Only better understood. His background does not become a book. His background remains what it was. Remains life. Generic life. As life is where life finds life at the root. I may let Whitman put in a word for himself. Whitman said to me of Lincoln: "Lincoln is particularly my manーparticularly belongs to me; yes, and by the same taken I am Lincoln's man: I guess I particularly belong to him: we are afloat in the same streamーwe are rooted in the same ground." To know the Lincoln of Whitman you want to know the Whitman of Whitman. Whitman was literary. But he was not first of all literary. Or last of all literary. First of all he was human. He was not the leaves of a book. He was the bone and flesh of a man. Yes, he was that something or other not bone or flesh which is also of a manーwhich finally is the man. Simply literary analysis can make little out of Whitman. He does not yield to the scalpel. He is not to be resurrected from an inkpot. His voice falls in with the prophet voices. He was not unlettered. He knew the alphabet. But he kept all alphabetical, arrogance well in hand. The letter was kept in hand. The spirit was left free. You cannot buy a ticket for Athens or Weimar or Paris or London or Boston and reach Whitman. He is never reached in that circle. The literary centers do not lead to him. You have got to travel to him by another route. You go East and find the Buddhistic canticles. You consult the Zoroastrian avatars. And you take the word of Jesus for a great deal. And you may hit Socrates on the way. And you keep on with your journey, touching here and there in European history certain men, certain influences. Going into port now and then. Never going where men compete for literary judgment. Never where men set out to acquit themselves immortally as artists. Keeping forever close to the careless rhythms of original causes. So you go on. And go on. And by and by you arrive at Whitman. Not by way of the university. Not by way of Shakespeare. Not by way of the literary experts and adepts. But by human ways. To try to find Whitman by way of Shakespeare or Moli?re would be hopeless. I do not disparage the other routes to other men. I am only describing this route to Whitman. This route, which is the only route. Whitman chants and prays and soars. He Is not pretty. He is only beautiful. He is not beautiful with the beauty of beauty. He is beautiful with the beauty of truth. The pen can easily miss Whitman. But the heart reaches him direct. Whitman is therefore the best route to Lincoln. The same process which provides Whitman for you provided Lincoln for. Whitman. Whitman said to me again about Lincoln: "There was no reason why Lincoln should not have been a prophet rather than a politician; he was in fact a divine prophet-politician; in him for almost the first time prophecy had something to say in politics. I shouldn't wonder but that in another age of the world Lincoln would have been a chosen man to lead in some rebellion against ecclesiastical institutions and religious form and ceremony."

When science meets metaphysics. Towards a new conception of existence【電子書籍】[ Bruno Del Medico ]

We live in an age of profound change, not only technological or social, but also, more quietly, paradigmatic. Our way of thinking about reality is changing. Today, the encounter between science and philosophy is no longer confined to academic circles, but imposes itself forcefully every time we take the discoveries of modern physics seriously. In particular, the term "quantum metaphysics" appears more and more often, disturbing and seductive, like an invitation to review the pillars of our thinking.

But what does "quantum metaphysics" really mean? It is not just a linguistic fad, nor is it a misappropriation of scientific concepts. Rather, it is a scenario in which humanity's oldest questionsーwhere do we come from? What is reality?ーfind new urgency in light of the most advanced developments in science.

Quantum metaphysics arises where physics admits to having entered mysterious territory. In this "non-local" zone, philosophy takes up the challenge.

If classical physics, from Newton to Maxwell, had constructed a reassuring world based on clear and intuitively accessible laws, quantum physics, since the early 20th century, has undermined its foundations. Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, the double-slit experiment, and multiple interpretations (from Everett's many worlds to the more pragmatic l Copenhagen school) have forced philosophers to redefine seemingly trivial concepts such as "object," "event," and "cause."

The legacy of these clashes is now bearing fruit. Some physicists, such as Bohm, Wigner, and Wheeler, urge us to rethink reality as purely relational (nothing exists 'in itself', but only 'for' and 'with' another).

It is interesting to note how, at the very heart of quantum thinking, ancient intuitions of Western and Eastern philosophy resurface. Parmenides, with his idea of "being one and indivisible," or Buddhism, with its notion of "universal interdependence," find surprising echoes in the technical language of contemporary physicists.

This is not a matter of abandoning the rigorous caution of scientific thought, nor of indulging in flights of fancy: on the contrary, quantum metaphysics is the place where both our traditionsーthe critical spirit of the West and the timeless curiosity of humanistsーcan nourish each other.

The new frontier that awaits us is precisely here: in the ability to embrace wonder while maintaining rigor, and to inhabit mystery without fearing that it will overwhelm us, but rather knowing that it is the very meaning of our thinking existence.

These reflections highlight a crucial point: science and philosophy, often seen as separate worlds, find common ground in the investigation of the ultimate mysteries of existence. In this context, human spirituality fits in as a third fundamental pole. In fact, the desire to discover the profound meaning of realityーwhether through the questions of quantum physics or through philosophical reflectionーis rooted precisely in the spiritual dimension of the human being: that innate yearning for knowledge, wonder, and the transcendent.

Spirituality, therefore, is not opposed to science or philosophy, but can be considered the original source of their very quest: it is the tension towards what we still do not understand, the awareness of the limits of rationality, but also the belief that there is a deeper meaning to be discovered.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Ghosts and Things The Material Culture of Nineteenth-Century Spiritualism【電子書籍】[ Aviva Briefel ]

Ghosts and Things argues that Victorians turned to the dead to understand the material culture of their present. With the rise of spiritualism in Britain in the early 1850s, s?ances invited participants to contact ghosts using material things, from ordinary household furniture to specialized technologies invented to register the presence of spirits. In its supernatural object lessons, Victorian spiritualism was not just a mystical movement centered on the dead but also a practical resource for learning how to negotiate the uncanniness of life under capitalism.

Aviva Briefel explores how spiritualism compelled s?ance participants to speculate on the manufacture of spectral clothing; ponder the hidden histories and energies of parlor furniture; confront the humiliations of consumerism as summoned spirits pelted them with exotic fruits; and comprehend modes of mechanical reproduction, like photography and electrotyping, that had the power to shape identities. Briefel argues that spiritualist practices and the objects they employed offered both believers and skeptics unexpected frameworks for grappling with the often-invisible forces of labor, consumption, exploitation, and exchange that haunted their everyday lives.

Ghosts and Things reveals how spiritualism's explorations of the borderland between life and death, matter and spirit, produced a strange and seductive combination of wonder and discomfort that allowed participants to experience the possibilities and precarities of industrial modernity in novel ways.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Loving in the Light of Eternity【電子書籍】[ Joshua Elzner ]

The words of this book seek to express, to make visible and tangible, the central reality that gives meaning to all of human existence: our call to experience the fullness of love and intimacy in the very likeness of the Trinity. They have been born from a prolonged contemplation of the mysteries of the faith, particularly of the mystery of God revealed to us through Christ in the Gospel, and, in the fullest way, in the Paschal Mystery of his Passion and Resurrection. And, in a particular way, this contemplation has come to discover that the "meeting place" by which the call of God meets us in the depths of our humanity is precisely in our bodies, in our concrete bodily existence as man and woman created in the image and likeness of God. It is here that the ineffable mystery of the divine intimacy becomes present and incarnate in all the contours of human existence, allowing each one of us, through sheer grace, to be espoused to God in intimate love, and also to live and manifest his own love and intimacy in our human relationships. This book is therefore a joyful immersion of heart and mind, bathed in contemplative wonder and reverent amazement, into the perennial complementarity of man and woman as an expression and an incarnation of the very inner life of the Trinity; and, through this and beyond this, it also seeks to express a glimpse, a taste, of the very inner life of God himself, our deepest desire and ultimate fulfillment. From this place, however, a rich multiplicity of reflections flows, seeking to draw the heart into the very convergence point of love and intimacy in which the whole of human existence, and indeed the whole of creation, is united as one within the eternal embrace of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This book the Spiritual Significance of a Name touched on the importance of a good name. When we think about a name the only thing comes to mind is usually something that distinguishing one from another, but we never think deeply about it. If we truly understood the importance of a name, would we chose a name for our children that doesn't have meaning to it? We then wonder why people behave the way they do. If a person had a name that had purpose or meaning to it, it would motivate that person to do greater things in life. It generates more to accomplish for that person as well. This book is to inspire all who seek a deeper purpose in life to dig deeper, seek out higher understanding to help them achieve more and define their purpose!

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】All Loves Excelling The Saints' Knowledge of Christ's Love【電子書籍】[ John Bunyan ]

All Loves Excelling is John Bunyan's sermon on Ephesians 3:17-18, 'That ye ... may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge.' It was first titled 'The Saints' Knowledge of Christ s Love' and is worthy of being ranked alongside Sibbes and deals with a much neglected subject area.

The subject matter of this work which was first preached, is greatly needed today. On the one hand, experiences of the Spirit are being claimed from which the glory of the redeemer and the wonder of his love are quite absent, while on the other, an almost total attention to the understanding and practising of scripture truth is having the effect of marginalising the experiential element in true, spiritual knowledge.

Bunyan's description of Christ's love to believers and how they ought to know it, cuts in both the above-mentioned directions. From some 440 Bible references he shows how knowing Christ's love is the message of Scripture and also the essence of heaven, partly possessed and expressed on earth. Those who know it are rich beyond measure and they are the people who 'sweeten the churches and bring glory to God and to religion'.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Voyages And Discoveries Of The Companions Of Columbus【電子書籍】[ Washington Irving ]

We are here presented with a good addition to Mr. Irving's Life of Columbus. None of the disciples of that great man achieved discoveries equal to his, and many of them were actuated by motives more questionable than the desire to extend our knowledge of the globs on which we live. To secure the first fruits of the pearl fisheries of Paris and Cubaga, or to explore the coast of Veragua, which Columbus had represented as the Aurea Chersonesus of the ancients, contented the ambition of many of his immediate followers. Some there were, however, who did more ; especially Vasco Nunez de Balboa, whose discovery of the Pacific Ocean forms one of the most beautiful and striking incidents In the history of the New World; and Juan Ponce de Leon, the conqueror of Porto Rico, and discoverer of Florida. Of all the captains and admirals sent out by Spain to follow up what Columbus had begun, Vasco Nunez is our favorite; and there are points in his history, that make us pause with wonder and admiration at the daring spirit of the man who surmounted, by his courage and perseverance, so many appalling difficulties ; not the least of which was the piecemeal transportation across the then untraversed mountains of Darien, of the first European ships that ploughed the waves of the Pacific. Nunez was a follower worthy of Columbus.

This book is a declaration of the power of the imagination. The manifestation of the imagination transcends the literal, concrete conclusions that knowledge often verifies. Poetry and photographs, especially B&Wits the imageoffer a moment to think, wonder, ponder and question reality and the power of the human spirit. We contemplate something we may have not considered before the moment, and those moments present the opportunity to grow, even just a little. Einstein knew it and believed. Its about holding a moment in our heart and mind, like the laugh of a child, a song, an embrace, a discovery, a revelation that stays with you forever and sometimes makes the world a little brighter. Endorsements The poetry and photography in Brooks new collection range from gentle to sophisticated to universally personal. Its what poetry and photography should be. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Unlocking the Power of Grace How Religion Uses the Bible Against Us【電子書籍】[ Derek Mitchell ]

Introduction Insecure. Powerless. Distant. These are some of the words that describe the way many people feel about their relationship with God. Countless numbers of us have been misled into thinking that if we fall short in our faith in some way, we might not make it to heaven. At times we can be unsure about our salvation. We may wonder if we have measured up to the minimum acceptable level of faith or if we have drifted too far away in our hearts to still be saved. "Why don’t I feel close to God? Where is the power I read about in the Bible? Am I walking close enough to God to keep my salvation? What does God think or feel about me?" This is a book for all of us who are looking to walk more intimately with God and to experience more of His power and presence. It is for those who want to know for sure that they are loved and accepted just the way they are, who want to stand tall and be confident in who God made them to be. Many of us have been hurt and disillusioned by religion, but we still yearn to know the Creator of the universe on a personal level. We have felt the frustration and discouragement of constantly striving to meet certain “biblical” expectations. And yet we long to know more about the love, grace, freedom, and happiness we sense is available to us. Some of us have simply given up on Christianity, feeling disgusted by hypocrisy, condemned by leaders, and burned out by the endless treadmill of trying to measure up. Bono (lead singer of the band U2) once said, “Religion is what you have when the Spirit has left the building.” Too much of Christianity has come under the spirit of religion by not allowing the Spirit of God the freedom to lead. We can easily know the Holy Spirit is present when there is “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” Galatians 5:22?23. Not only are these the fruits of the Holy Spirit, they are also words that describe God’s character. They should describe the people who know Him, as well. The spirit of religion is the opposite of these. It promotes judgment, oppression, condemnation, accusation, self-righteousness, hatred, and fear. This type of religion is destructive, and it kills our souls. It deceives us into thinking that we are defending God’s honor, taking a stand for what is right and opposing what is wrong, when in reality we are being led away from His heart, which is full of grace. It’s time to break free from the spirit of religion and put an end to these destructive ways. Religion shackles us to the fear of not being good enough. (Note: In this book, “religion” refers to that which is influenced by the spirit of religion, which is from the Devil, and not to the pure, godly religion spoken of in James 1.) Instead, let’s align ourselves with the Spirit of Truth. He is good and frees us from this fear with unconditional love. We know the truth when we hear it because it makes us come alive in our hearts. Truth breathes joy into us. Truth is healing. Truth brings freedom. Truth is powerful. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the truth.” Jesus is the truth that reveals God’s heart, and He demonstrated these attributes wherever He went. He was continually mobbed by thousands of people because life, joy, healing, freedom, and power flowed out from Him. Jesus was love wrapped in flesh. Our goal is to get to know this Jesus better, to learn more about who He really is, what He really did for us, and what it means for our lives. To accomplish this goal we will look at the true, biblical meaning of grace and see if there are any limits to it. We will dissect Bible passages that seem to contradict this amazing grace and determine if they should be translated or interpreted differently. We will also see if the Enemy has distorted our perception of the Bible to promote religion and all of its trappings. And hopefully before the end of our time together we will get to the heart of God and see what’s really there.

THE NATURE OF REALITY

Universal Law of Reversibility

By MF Ntuli

Preface

There comes a time in human awakening when the questions of existence rise beyond religion, science, and philosophy. It is the moment when the spirit within humanity remembers its ancient truth ー that life has no beginning and no end. What appears to die only reforms; what seems to disappear merely changes its rhythm. Existence is not a straight line but a circle that forever returns to itself.

Through all forms ー from the tiniest atom to the vast galaxies ー the same current of energy moves and reverses, transforms and renews. Humanity stands as the conscious witness of this eternal cycle. In our moments of pain, joy, death, and rebirth, we see reflections of one universal law ー the Law of Reversibility ー that everything moves in dual motion. Every cause gives rise to an effect, and every effect becomes a cause again.

This book is not a work of theory, but of remembrance. It is a reminder of the cosmic truth that we are not living in life; rather, we are life itself, experiencing its own wonder through the form of humanity. The discoveries of science echo the whispers of spirit ー electricity born of friction, sound produced by movement, magnetism drawn from polarity. What we call the physical world is the visible face of invisible consciousness in motion.

As we begin this journey together, may these words help awaken within you the quiet realization that everything you see, touch, and feel is part of the same infinite dance ー the reversal of the same energy that once breathed the stars into existence. Life is not moving toward death; it is returning to itself, endlessly renewed.

Let us enter the circle with open minds and hearts, ready to witness the beauty of what has always been: the eternal nature of reality.

2023 PUBLICATION OF THE YEAR HERITAGE AWARD by Museum and Heritage Prince Edward Island/Musee et patrimoine Ile-du-Prince-Edouard

On September 24th 2022, post-tropical cyclone Fiona made landfall as one of the most intense storms to ever hit the coastal shores of Prince Edward Island. Fiona left in her wake Islanders ravaged and disoriented, in an unprecedented outage that left 95% of customers without power. As Islanders struggled in the days and weeks that followed, what revealed itself was a community’s spirit that cannot be broken.

This collection in poetry, essay and photographs records Islanders' experience of the storm, from Fiona’s first shocking moments post to the absolute wonder experienced as the lights came back on, home by home. It is a historical record of a weather event that will never be forgotten, and serves to capture the impact of climate change on Canada’s smallest province.

Royalties from the book's sales will be donated to the Island Nature Trust.

"In my years of witnessing damage from PEI weather events, Fiona has left me, and all Islanders, with unimaginable visions and memories of her wrath. I was awestruck, as I navigated my way around our neighbourhood, by the aroma of cracked and fallen timber, downed wires and poles, damaged buildings, and the whirr of generators.
