Im Kontext des Kalten Kriegs war es f?r die USA von gr??ter Bedeutung, die Entstehung eines kommunistischen Indonesiens zu verhindern, denn man ging davon aus, dass 'eine Bindung Indonesiens als dem gr??ten neutralen Land in S?dostasien an einen der ideologischen Rivalen [...] eine erhebliche Kr?fteverschiebung' bedeutet h?tte. Im Laufe des Kalten Kriegs erlaubten es sich die Amerikaner mehrfach, in innenpolitische Angelegenheiten anderer L?nder einzugreifen, wobei Indonesien keine Ausnahme darstellte. Die zu beantwortende Frage lautet daher: Welche Rolle spielten die Amerikaner bei dem politischen Machtwechsel der 1960er Jahre in Indonesien? In den fr?hen Morgenstunden des 1. Oktobers 1965 kam es in Jakarta zu einem Putschversuch, bei dem sechs Gener?le ermordet wurden. Die Verantwortlichen bezeichneten sich als Bewegung 30. September (Gerakan September Tiga Puluh, G30S) und hatten offiziell die Absicht, Pr?sident Sukarno vor einem bevorstehenden Coup d'?tat durch das Milit?r zu besch?tzen. Jedoch gelang es dem Milit?r unter der F?hrung von General Suharto, die Bewegung innerhalb k?rzester Zeit zu zerschlagen. Dieser Putschversuch wurde der Kommunistischen Partei Indonesiens (Partai Komunis Indonesia, PKI) zugeschrieben und f?hrte zu einer Kommunistenverfolgung bei der einige hunderttausend Menschen ums Leben kamen. Vor allem aufgrund der fatalen Auswirkungen von G30S ist es sonderbar, dass bis heute nicht vollst?ndig gekl?rt werden konnte, inwiefern Teile der PKI-F?hrung oder des Milit?rs in diese Bewegung involviert waren. Dieses einschneidende Ereignis leitete die Macht?bernahme Suhartos und somit einen bedeutsamen politischen Wandel ein. Diese Arbeit besch?ftigt sich in einem ersten Teil mit dem Ablauf und den Konsequenzen des Putschversuchs vom 1. Oktober 1965.
