As Hartmann recalls Nate's case, he dishes out amusing anecdotes, shares Garden State trivia, admits to various personal quirks and shortcomings, and offers a treasure trove of advice on how to start a legal practice, prepare clients for trial, cross examine witnesses, pick juries, and make prison hooch.
In "An Account of Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha, or Red Jacket, and His People, 1750-1830," John Niles Hubbard offers a meticulous historical narrative that delves into the life of the prominent Seneca leader Red Jacket and the broader context of his community during a pivotal era in American history. Through a unique blend of documentary research and a compelling prose style, Hubbard illuminates the complexities of Native American identity and resistance, as well as the societal pressures faced amidst European-American encroachment. The book serves as both a biography and a cultural history, bridging literary and anthropological insights to encapsulate the struggles and triumphs of Red Jacket'??s people in a transforming landscape. John Niles Hubbard, a scholar well-versed in Native American studies, draws upon extensive primary resources, including letters, treaties, and oral histories, to construct this narrative. His deep respect for indigenous perspectives is evidenced by his dedication to portraying the lived experiences of those often marginalized in historical discourse. Hubbard's background in anthropology and his commitment to social justice likely inspire his passion for reclaiming and highlighting the narratives of Native leaders like Red Jacket. This work is highly recommended for scholars, students, and general readers interested in Native American history, as well as those seeking to understand the enduring impact of colonialism on indigenous populations.

White-Jacket; or, The World in a Man-of-War is the fifth book by American writer Herman Melville, first published in London in 1850. The book is based on the author's fourteen months service in the United States Navy, aboard the frigate USS "Neversink"(actually the USS United States). Based on Melville's experiences as a common seaman aboard the frigate USS United States from 1843 to 1844 and stories that other sailors told him, the novel is severely critical of virtually every aspect of American naval life and thus qualifies as Melville's most politically strident work. At the time, though, the one thing that journalists and politicians focused on in the novel was its graphic descriptions of flogging and the horrors caused by its arbitrary use; in fact, because Harper & Bros. made sure the book got into the hands of every member of Congress, White-Jacket was instrumental in abolishing flogging in the U.S. Navy forever.

It was not a very white jacket, but white enough, in all conscience, as the sequel will show.

The way I came by it was this.

When our frigate lay in Callao, on the coast of Peruーher last harbour in the PacificーI found myself without a grego, or sailor's surtout; and as, toward the end of a three years' cruise, no pea?jackets could be had from the purser's steward: and being bound for Cape Horn, some sort of a substitute was indispensable; I employed myself, for several days, in manufacturing an outlandish garment of my own devising, to shelter me from the boisterous weather we were so soon to encounter.

It was nothing more than a white duck frock, or rather shirt: which, laying on deck, I folded double at the bosom, and by then making a continuation of the slit there, opened it lengthwiseーmuch as you would cut a leaf in the last new novel. The gash being made, a metamorphosis took place, transcending any related by Ovid. For, presto! the shirt was a coat!ーa strange?looking coat, to be sure; of a Quakerish amplitude about the skirts; with an infirm, tumble?down collar; and a clumsy fullness about the wristbands; and white, yea, white as a shroud. And my shroud it afterward came very near proving, as he who reads further will find.

In Dust Jacket, Connor MacLean is a rare book dealer, who specializes in military and historical manuscripts. His father Grant is a Vietnam veteran and Grandfather Ian served during WWII, while Connor himself served with distinction in Operation Desert Storm. Yet Connor is not the typical disturbed vet. He is a successful businessman, respected by his peers and considered an expert in his field.

MacLean attends an estate sale in an affluent Chicago suburb, where he intends to purchase a number of one-of-a-kind items concerning Erwin Rommel, the famed Desert Fox. This sets the stage for a hidden map, possibly revealing the location of a fabulous gold horde, hidden from the Nazis at the opening of WWII. The map exists and in several people’s minds, it’s certainly worth killing for. Travel across the United States to a former POW camp for Axis prisoners, where clues are hidden, to a whitewater chase on the Wolf River in Wisconsin.

While Connor MacLean deals with an ex-wife, alcoholic father, eccentric grandfather, jealous rival book dealers and neo-Nazis, led by a former German air ace, you will wonder what can go wrong next. All the action leads to a series of plot twists, unexpected developments and the final confrontation on the resort islands of Greece.

It was not a very white jacket, but white enough, in all conscience, as the sequel will show.

The way I came by it was this.

When our frigate lay in Callao, on the coast of Peruーher last harbour in the PacificーI found myself without a grego, or sailor's surtout; and as, toward the end of a three years' cruise, no pea-jackets could be had from the purser's steward: and being bound for Cape Horn, some sort of a substitute was indispensable; I employed myself, for several days, in manufacturing an outlandish garment of my own devising, to shelter me from the boisterous weather we were so soon to encounter.

For, presto! the shirt was a coat!ーa strange-looking coat, to be sure; of a Quakerish amplitude about the skirts; with an infirm, tumble-down collar; and a clumsy fullness about the wristbands; and white, yea, white as a shroud. And my shroud it afterward came very near proving, as he who reads further will find.

But, bless me, my friend, what sort of a summer jacket is this, in which to weather Cape Horn? A very tasty, and beautiful white linen garment it may have seemed; but then, people almost universally sport their linen next to their skin.

Asked Maria.
“Yes,” said Hugo.
More silence.
Then Estella, a small mousy girl nearest the radiator, spoke up.
“The one with the Velcro?
“Yes, “said Hugo.
“That’s Noor’s.”
“Is she here?
Again the silence.
“She’s off work at the moment,” said Maria.
Hugo went out but as he turned to go up the stairs the Velcro caught him again.
“Noor? He asked Enrique, the senior partner, at coffee time.
“Very sad ,” he said enigmatically.
“Beautiful girl though,” said Enrique. “Such hair, rich, glossy, and those lips.”
Enrique was always ecstatic about women.
“But what happened to her?
