Camp Life in the Woods and the Tricks of Trapping and Trap Making - The Original Classic Edition【電子書籍】[ Gibson W ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Camp Life in the Woods and the Tricks of Trapping and Trap Making - The Original Classic Edition【電子書籍】[ Gibson W ]

This book is a treasure chest of 19th century bushcraft, hunting, and trapping methods that can be and are still useful today. Some of the hunting and trapping techniques may be considered illegal today and one can make more money off of trapping today but then again in 1881 there were no income taxes and the dollar was still on the gold standard.

$10.00 for an otter pelt was not bad, but still, if fur companies paid for furs back then what they pay today a lot of them old time trappers would have been living in the lap of luxery. This book is an excellent look back into a era where things were a little less complicated.

This makes for interesting reading because it was originally published in 1881 and offers a flavor of what a trappers life was like back in the primitive wilderness. The information provided seems technically sound and not outdated; in fact it sounds like the voice of solid experience. It is mainly about trapping but also describes how to build a log cabin or a canoe, what camping suppliers should be carried and much more.

The traps are described in detail such that you can easily understand them. The knowledge in this book will improve the survival skills of any Outdoorsman as the ability to trap meat would be essential to extended survival. I recommend this for anyone interested in Trapping, or who has a lot of survival experience, or just interest and wants to pick up some new information that is not available in most books.

The book aims to develop a clearer understanding of the influence of social dynamics on the educational opportunities of high school students of color in the urban setting of California’s Los Angeles area. Specifically, we examine how students’ backgrounds, high school experiences and own agency shape their college preparation processes and postsecondary aspirations. While some research has been done on high school students’ college-choice process, this book is unique in its broad and comparative approach. It examines the experiences of students across 10 schools, identifying broad themes that are illustrated through specific case studies. This approach allows readers to understand the broader issues that face students from underserved backgrounds as they pursue college, while illuminating how these issues uniquely manifest hemselves in individual school contexts.

Located in Chelten Hills just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Camp William Penn was the largest and first Civil War facility to exclusively train Northern-based federal black soldiers during the war. Boasting the biggest free-black population in the country and the 19th-century's epicenter of the Underground Railroad, Philadelphia and Camp William Penn, hosted the greatest anti-slavery abolitionists, including Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Robert Purvis, and William Still. Douglass and Tubman spoke to and rallied some of the almost 11,000 soldiers, many of them runaway or ex-slaves, who trained in eleven regiments that fought in a slew of major battles, helped to corner the Confederate General Robert E. Lee and his Rebel forces, as well as capture President Lincoln's assassins. Several earned the Medal of Honor for their bravery, and many gave their lives. At a time when America's very existence was threatened, the warriors and freedom fighters for human equality associated with Camp William Penn were a major part of the country's salvation. The complete story is told here.

During his childhood, C. D. Griffith lived on his family’s Indiana farm in the Eel River bottoms where he worked the land, hunted, and fished, never venturing further than twenty-five miles from home. But all of that changed during his senior year of high school when he was drafted into the US Army. In March 1943, with a brief stop at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, eighteen-year-old Griffith headed on a train to Camp White in Medford, Oregon, with a final stop in Japan. In a collection of original, unedited letters penned to his family, Griffith details his experiences as a soldier serving his country in a faraway land. His letters contain vivid descriptions of what he learned in camp and witnessed in the Pacific while bravely battling the enemy as a member of the Greatest Generation. My Senior Trip shares the original letters of a Second World War soldier that provide a fascinating glimpse into his experiences while serving his country overseas.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Luck of Roaring Camp and Other Tales【電子書籍】[ Bret Harte ]

Collection of Bret Harte's work up to 1897. According to Wikipedia: "Bret Harte (August 25, 1836[2] ? May 6, 1902) was an American author and poet, best remembered for his accounts of pioneering life in California. He was born in Albany, New York. ... He moved to California in 1853, later working there in a number of capacities, including miner, teacher, messenger, and journalist. He spent part of his life in the northern California coast town now known as Arcata, then just a mining camp on Humboldt Bay. His first literary efforts, including poetry and prose, appeared in The Californian, an early literary journal edited by Charles Henry Webb. In 1868 he became editor of The Overland Monthly, another new literary magazine, but this one more in tune with the pioneering spirit of excitement in California. His story, "The Luck of Roaring Camp," appeared in the magazine's second edition, propelling Harte to nationwide fame... Determined to pursue his literary career, in 1871 he and his family traveled back East, to New York and eventually to Boston, where he contracted with the publisher of The Atlantic Monthly for an annual salary of $10,000, "an unprecedented sum at the time." His popularity waned, however, and by the end of 1872 he was without a publishing contract and increasingly desperate. He spent the next few years struggling to publish new work (or republish old), delivering lectures about the gold rush, and even selling an advertising jingle to a soap company. In 1878 Harte was appointed to the position of United States Consul in the town of Krefeld, Germany and then to Glasgow in 1880. In 1885 he settled in London. During the thirty years he spent in Europe, he never abandoned writing, and maintained a prodigious output of stories that retained the freshness of his earlier work. He died in England in 1902 of throat cancer and is buried at Frimley."

Bullet Points and Punch Lines The Most Important Commentary Ever Written On the Epic American Tragicomedy【電子書籍】[ Lee Camp ]

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Bullet Points and Punch Lines The Most Important Commentary Ever Written On the Epic American Tragicomedy【電子書籍】[ Lee Camp ]

Our US empire is in steep decline. In order to wrest complete control over the globe and feed a rapacious thirst for resources and wealth, the American ruling elite is wreaking havoc around the world. Meanwhile, average Americans are suffering, legs trembling under a mountain of debt as they toil at unfulfilling, underpaying jobs. And those with enough time and energy to get angry and fight back are told that the answer is to vote for one of the two pro-war, pro?Wall Street corporate parties claiming to be their savior.

This epic tragedy does not sound like the beginning of a joke. But somehow comedian and TV host Lee Camp makes it both funny and interesting. Whether he is setting his sights on the scandal of $21 trillion worth of unaccounted-for financial adjustments at the Pentagon or the scorching environmental and human tragedy caused by climate chaos, it’s unsurprising that one of our most incisive political commentators is technically a comedian. Camp knifes his way through the jungle of fake news, alternative facts, mainstream media lies, and government blackouts, trailblazing a path between Hunter S. Thompson and Jon Stewart.

Perhaps the present-day story of America can only accurately be told by a comedian, otherwise no one would believe it.
